Screw the doping, I've gone climbing.Well, it's not the Rockies but I do have on ride down here in the borderlands where I can get some altitude in.
Did this yesterday to relieve the angst about the whole TdF doping bullshit.

It's a pretty nice ride. Not to steep at any time, just a couple of nice 6 mile climbs (that's about 20km total in Euros). Most of the ride is on frontage roads until the climb starts then it's onto the highway. Luckily the majority of that has an extra passing lane. I got a beep beep and a thumbs up on first climb. But I did have an asshole semi driver you obviously wanted me off the highway and did a squeeze on me.

excellent mg. It was the right thing to do. All we can really celebrate and bemoan is the mere mortals since the pros as amazing fast as they are don't pass muster. This tour is total shite. Thanks for posting something we can all believe in.

Duh, dude...can you say the NOSE?
Roof pitch.
Badabing! Always wanted to do that. I like ice, snow and altitude a lot more, though.
Is that you taking the pic, hw? Amazing pic!
Yes the Hillary step, Everest. The next one will be harder.

No cheating.

well done.
N face witht he yellow band. Yellow band is interesting geologically...its a major plastic fault zone that puts marine limestone on the summit of everest. we just hired a structural geologist working on the geology of the everest region..

Weren't the Himalaya formed when India smashed, albeit slowly, into Asia? I'm thinking I used to see the measures of Everest all at 29, 027 feet, but now the accepted elevation is 29, 035 feet. It's still smashing, I think (pun intended).

I ve actually seen samples that Hillary brought down. pretty boring rocks, but cool factor high.

Indeed, starting at about 40 million yrs ago. Used to be 29 028. the new measurement was done by national geographic a number of youears back with new tech. Its not "growing" perceptably, quite the reverse, the everest massif is shedding rock as the mountain is to big to support its mass (so some folks believe). About 29000 feet is the practical limit on Earth to build a mountian.

According to Planet Earth and Mr Attenborough the Himalayas are still rising

well still colliding for sure. there are lots of faults that now are compensating for this collision. in terms of getting higher, its pretty much hit the limit.
