Round Lake Zurich, Switzerland Feb 2007Not such a bright day today, around 4C and rain forecast. So here twiddler goes for 70km around the Lake of Zurich. Start at about 90m above the lake's level.
Looking towards the south end of Lake Zurich
Looking towards Zurich (north) end of the lake.
Wollishofen, near lakeside.
Some old bike parked near Zurich, looking south
Zurich, bridge crossing Limmat river
Looking back towards Thalwil from where we started up there on the hillside
Nearing Rapperswil (there's a long bridge across the lake)
Rapperswil harbour and castle
That's it. I was getting cold so I bashed the last 25km without stopping to take any more photographs. The camera was in my phone so the quality is rather dodgey.
Here's the route:http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/switzerland/thalwil/242902293

Stellar! Even if it looked cold, what a beautiful ride. Sure beats the ride around Tempe Town Lake here in Arizona.

Wow! Impressive pictures from a cell phone. Hands down, your scenic ride beats my early morning roll on a concrete bike path along a concrete bayou.

Love it! If you Europeans keep posting, we Americans can try to match. What would you like to see from the States?

Well you can mountain bike in Sedona, Arizona (the red rock country) and see this:
I will have to sort through and see what other scenic stuff one sees on bikes, at least here in Arizona..........

This is another great road ride over Mingus Mountain in central Arizona. It is a summertime ride though.
you can see on the horizon the beginning of the red rock country of Sedona

And then if you leave the state and go west to California, specifically northern California, you find the great Golden Gate:
and in my humble opinion, riding the Marin Headlands on the opposite end of the bridge, is some of the prettiest scenery I have ever ridden in.

Here's a picture from today's cold and wet ride. This is a village called Arth (say: Art) on the Lake of Zug. I rode 75km today of which the last 45km were very cold and wet. The terrain around this lake is not so flat as yesterday's ride around the Lake of Zurich but it's still not much more than a few "ground waves".

It all looks great.
A couple of were thinking that the 'Alpen Brevet' sportif might be worth some consideration. But at 266 kms and a whole lot of climbing that is one serious ride.

Twiddler,
I am hard pressed to match the splendor of your rides.......is it even more spectacular (or more crowded) when the weather warms up?

So what for the scenery?
I did my 130 mile brevet ride Saturday and I saw some cows, I bet you don't have cows in Zurich.

Agreed. I'd post some but it's been too damned cold to operate the camera!
HW, my new NASA insoles plus the $1 foot warmers worked very well. Good for about 3 hours. Not sure about 4-5 hour rides, though.
bb: Golden Gate here we come!

Me too! Thought I'd post this picture again. So, if you can ride those hills, why aren't you riding with us on Saturday or Sunday? TriMaui and I are riding Sausalito, Corte Madera and Tiburon Sunday. We'll be going over that little red bridge.

Because I am a credentialed journalist who is there to cover a silly little endeavor called a bicicleta race
And whilst I may ride those roads, I do NOT ride them as fast as you and Tri
I am riding on Saturday, nice a leisurely in Alameda with Happa Gal, her hubby and the Moots two.
Then off for my Jens Voigt interview and the Liquigas soiree.
But will post my Alameda photos when I get back.

These threads are fantastic - i'll try and do one for one of my modest local rides, although posting the pics might prove a headache for me and my grumpy old sod of a computer.

This is a very important ride:
My daughter on her new bike off to explore the neighborhood (and yes she has a helmet but Mum was neglectful this first time)

aaaaah ....the simple joys of a bike.
It's 22C/73F, 15% humidity- Houston Texas normal closer to 100%, suns out and not a cloud in the sky. PERFECT DAY
I'm inspired to take a roll along the bike trail. If I'm brave may ride the road!
Thanks all for sharing your pics. I'll do the same one of these days.
see ya

Speaking of, when I got home I was wearing that shirt and the first thing she did was read the "I See You"! over and over and over (but then she had NOT seen me for over a week............)
