Road-rage verdict: GuiltyI've been following the trial about the LA driver who slammed on his brakes and caused two cyclists to wreck last year. He was found guilty yesterday.
Trial outcome
Velonews had a lot of good writeups about this trial and also how the defendant tried to justify that he didn't cause the accident.

Thompson was convicted of six felonies: two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury as well as reckless driving causing specified injury and mayhem. He was also convicted of misdemeanor reckless driving.
I would like to see the full 10 years jail time thrown at this idiot!!

Here they'd have given him his own cookery program and national newspaper column...
someone should send this to Matthew Parris, James Martyn and Jeremy Clarkson.

I think 'idiot' is a perfect word to describe Thompson. You should read about his defense. He claimed he stopped to take a picture of the cyclists. Swore he didn't slam on his brakes, but they played back his 911 call were he said "I slammed on my brakes". Claimed the cyclists crashed because of instabilities with their own bikes.
That first article has all the other related articles posted in it. The first one starts Oct 12.

Yes it is. Although, I don't agree with how the cyclists reacted. I think we all got to show good manners regardless of what others are doing to us. Those cars are just to dangerous to us cyclists. I have to tell myself this when things similar to this happens to me.
When people do wrong to us, they are generally looking for an excuse to 'teach us a lesson' like Thompson felt with those cyclists. I've been buzed a few times. I've also watched as those drivers look back to see if I was going to react. Most incidents I hear about this usually end up not good for the cyclist if they do react. Its best to get a license plate number and call the police. This is what helped get Thompson convicted. The earlier incident helped set a pattern for the this incident and he ended up getting convicted.
I have to admit though, I live in an area where most of the cars and cyclist do show a respect to one another. Most of the issues I have with cars tend to be the one where they just don't see you. I get few where the driver intentionally does something, but they do happen from time to time.

Whilst in prison, Andrew Stubbs, from George Street, Bicester should be made to watch this over and over again.....
