Rest Day Doping Positive Lotto

Who will be the lucky winner this year?  Laughing
Fontfroide

Is this a guess or a story you have read?  I googled Lotto, drugs/doping and didn't find any new stories.

Oh … it is probably a joke I don't get.

Well it won't be the Sky train as they're all clearly off the dope for the duration of the Tour Wink

With the French having joint responsibility for testing this year, labs literally running 24 hour shifts and rumours of Aicar and plasticiser tests, along with the new micro dosing test, I imagine there will be a lot of people on their best behaviour and not so much riding into form in the third week or having the rest of two men on the Mondays.

Stick this here as it's a rest day story. Odd, as it's not the first time he's had to descend.

Yes, very odd. Aren't the Pyrenean stages steeper than the Alps stages? Could that possibly be a reason? What is stranger is that you'd think he would have scout rode some of these stages just to check them out.

Sorry about misunderstanding your post, you didn't mean at all that  someone on the Lotto team had been caught.  You meant it as "a lottery".  Me being slow again.

Amazing really to hear a pro rider be so nervous descending.  It was always my favourite bit of riding and I used to really fly at times but thankfully I have backed off a bit in recent years and I am glad of it.

Bizarre though that a pro wouldn't just tuck in and follow a safe wheel.  Riding wheel to wheel in a pack of 200 riders is a lot more sketchy than descending IMO

Europcar and FDJ are my personal favourites to win the rest day lottery... Wink

Sounds just like Bahamontes:
"Bahamontes was a talented climber but a poor descender, sometimes taking one foot off the pedal to take mountain bends like a speedway rider. He landed in a cactus bush descending the Montserrat as an amateur and thereafter refused to descend mountains alone, once waiting at the top of a col in the Tour de France for other riders to arrive. He reached the top minutes before a chase group arrived, and famously passed the time eating ice cream by the side of the road."

What exactly is Hesjedal's thinking with these glasses?  A bet?

He should be banned by the UCI Fashion Police - I'm sure those sunglasses are on the banned list of clothes and accessories!!!!!  Wink

Damn, I had a look thinking who on earth from Lotto besides Greipel was good enough to have tested positive?
I suppose that's what happens when you take a rest on the rest day. Embarassed

Mind you, I'd certainly have a snigger if it ever happened to FDJ.

I quite like the Garmin Goggles actually - no accounting for taste (mine that is) Wink. If he won an Olympic medal then they would look great in gold rims.  Didn't realise it was them kicking it off yesterday.

To all the puzzled people, Gerry's roots are showing

Yep Embarassed

Like Belgium the National Lottery game is called Lotto here.  Bingo would have been better but you get my drift...

Quote from inring (me taking no position whatever on the question of sunglasses … yet).

"Some say he’s impersonating Elvis but I like Ryder Hesjedal’s eyewear. It’s different and the glasses by Swedish company POC make him easy to spot – although his 17cm bar drop position is a giveaway – and breaks from the near-identical sunglasses of the bunch.

It makes you wonder why riders don’t sport more fashionable eyewear. Sponsorship is the reason, they’re paid to wear a brand and of course metal frames and glass lenses are out of the question for sports. But most fashion glasses feature polycarbonate frames and plastic lenses and Oakley belongs to Luxxotica Group, the Italian firm that also owns Ray Ban and makes sunglasses for Prada and Chanel."

I would point out that style is coming back into style here in the US.
Mrs John Murphy

Give him a stupid beard, he'd be rocking the midwest hipster look with those glasses.

They look like a pair made for 5 year olds by Boots.
