Racing pictures!I like pictures of people racing. Well, I prefer more recent pictures of me racing, I seem to have acquired grace and guile...
(Not an exhaustive collection of races, a number of them lately are without pictures )
Brighton Triathlon, September 2007
My first triathlon
Chilly Duathlon, November 2007
Bike picture is awful... I hadn't trained for a few months and wasn't thinking.
Reading Half-marathon, March 2008
Sprint finish; found so much energy in the last mile, went past hundreds of people!
Mansfield Triathlon, May 2008
The most recent, position on the bike much improved
Post your own pictures too, if like me you have no shame.

Severo,
How long did you train for your first triathlon and was it a sprint or a regular distance?
Curious as I am working towards a sprint triathlon this fall or winter.........

I started training in about April or May last year just to accompany my sister who is recovering from a couple of smashed up legs she sustained a few years ago. Didn't really train hard as I was more often than not training with her. I was finding the training a bit dull tbh but then I did my first one (top picture) and got hooked. It was supersprint/novice, but with a difficult swim as it was in the English Channel. I started training properly when I joined my current club (which I am now President of) a few weeks later.
I'm just doing sprints this year, done two already and got five more pencilled in. I will typically only train about three times a week, but it varies. I should do my training programme more methodically but I'm at a physical condition where I can do fairly average in races and more importantly usually beat the other people in my club! Next year I'll be doing standard distance and maybe half-ironman towards the end of the season, although that may wait until the next year.
If you pick the right one, sprint triathlon is easy. A 400m pool swim, then a 20km flat bike and 5km flat run will only take around 60 to 90 minutes. Have you experience in all three disciplines or are you new to any? And, have you joined a local club?

once a competitive swimmer, adequate cyclist and a bit dodgy on the run as I have a questionable knee (so am not looking to win just yet!).
Strong endurance all the way around though.
Have a very best friend who is a 6x Ironman. She inspires me and is trying to get me to do one in 2010. I only promised the sprint as a goal to achieve. I haven't joined a club but am using her and another Ironman friend for training tips. My only concern is the run.
Who knows? I may end up hooked on the sport.
Thanks for your input.

Way to go, bb! I could never do it. All that running and swimming would definitely get in the way of cycling training.

That's me attacking from the second group on the road. I'd not raced in almost a month and was using this one to get race-fit again, which is why I said I didn't do so well.

LOL, is that to me? If so I'm a towering 1.74m or 5'8" in old money. I'm good on the kind of short power climbs you get in this part of the world, but I'm more of a puncheur than a grimpeur.

Luke Keough, another of Jake's "little" brothers, takes the jump at Eco-Cross Falmouth last fall 2007. Of course he won. He's the Junior National Cyclocross Champion:
That's Sam from Corner Cycle being the clown. Great mechanic. We wish him well in Oregon. He keeps returning, but we think this time's for real. It's all about the girl...

Severo! I forgot to add you in the poll for JC rider of the year I do apologize, how did you do in the tri?
|

Haha, my cycling's rubbish at the moment so I'm not bothered about being left out of the JC Cyclist of the Year running! I done "OK" in the race, finished in the top 20% (of 1400 starters), but should have finished top 10% if I had done my final prep race on the Tuesday before (it was raining so I didn't!) and if I hadn't had to stop during the bike for an ambulance - which didn't cost me too much time in stopping itself but as soon as I stopped moving my legs, cramp set in
