PT Licences

SKY get the PT Licence...... Rolling Eyes
kathy

Pat said they would a few weeks ago.
Fontfroide

My fearless prediction is that by the time of the Giro they will be seventh at best and ninth at worst in the UCI rankings.  but then I am a bit of Brit and an optimist.
Biosphere

I would say it was inevitable.

Globalisation is high on the UCI's agenda. They're going to scratch the back of a global multimedia platform as over the likes of a German dairy anytime.

Radioshack will get a license too I'd expect. Who from Bbox, Cofidis, Lampre and Milram will get the shove?

I thought Skil-Shimano had pulled out of applying for a PT licence which leaves enough licences for everyone now??? Maybe I misunderstood???
Beasley

Skil wants to see how things shape up next year. A smaller ProTour means more wildcards thus greater opportunity. They have all the biological passport stuff in place anyway, I think, so will be a popular and 'reliable' wildcard.

A brave decision; a decision more teams should take, probable.
Nolte

plus also for Skil there's probably a few pointless races they'd have to ride if they got the license

better to pick and choose the schedules as much as possible i feel
Mrs John Murphy

A PT license is the last thing the Shit want or need because they would be forced to race a full season instead of cherry picking a few warm weather races.

Maybe I misunderstand. I don't pay a huge amount of attention to the licensing. However, as I understand it, there may be notional license slots available, but remember what happened the last time the UCI upped the numbers? ASO went to war. I'd be surprised if the UCI started rocking the boat again after peace finally broke out last year. Armstrong's back. Everyone will compromise and try to grow their various revenue streams.

Anyway, as Beasley/Nolte point out, being a high end PC team allows for a more selective and cheaper racing schedule. With current financial climate might be attractive to some current PT teams anyway.

Edit: Some more news

Add Astana to the list of potential shovees

There are 7 teams chasing a possible 7 PT bits of paper, so no worries.
Skil are staying PC.
The wildcard solution seems to  resolve itself, with organisers free to non-invite the odd team.
Besides, Agritubel (good squad) are finishing, so which French (crap squad) lot will step up for the automatic entry?

I would assume that would be Saur-Sojasun given the signings they have made ie Hivert
kathy

Did Skil say why they pulled out?  Perhaps they realised they'd never get a PT licence after their under-par performance in the Tour this year - compared with teams like Acqua e Sapone in the Giro, Agritubel in the Tour, and Vacansoleil and Xacobeo in the Vuelta.

I thought Pat was wittering about reducing the number of Protour teams to 18 a few weeks ago - so perhaps it's not all cut and dried.

That was my take too

CN reports that the top 3 Continental teams, Cervélo, Diquigiovanni and Aqua e Sapone will get invites to PT races next year and that there probably will be fewer PT licenses given out.

PT Pat mouths off at Astana, again.
Apparently, he thinks he can be Contador's saviour! Embarassed

All McQuaid's meetings should be broadcast live on tv for us all to hear.

Then all his press statements couldn't be followed by the ubiquitous;"Oh Pat, you're such a corrupt liar - what are you up to now?"
