Pre-Tour Information

I suppose most of you know, but looks like Galibier is out of the Tour.  Apparently a big landslide on the road from Grenoble to Briancon roughly near the tunnel de Chambon, just before the barrage.  Not going to be cleaned up until autumn.  No alternative route revealed, but speculation is that they climb the Col de Croix de Fer instead and drop down to climb the Alpe.

A friend suggested that I download the TDF road book.  Always full of fascinating info, including what hotels the giants of the road stay at.  YOu get a decent sense of the finishes and so forth.  Plus loads of utterly useless stuff too.

That's brilliant Fontfroide. Thanks for the link. I've never been able to find a copy before the race.
I've got a couple of hard copies that someone gave me after the race and I've found a few old ones online to download free. But to get an actual pdf copy before the race is excellent!!!!!

Merci beaucoup FF

SAdly, they just don't pass near us this year or else I might be tempted to hang out at some hotel at a carefully chosen time to see what I could see.  I imagine there are a lot of groupies who mostly talk to themselves, since not much would be happening.  On the other hand, sometimes I am such a fanatic, watching the mechanics clean the bikes might be interesting.

Is that download link still functional ?
I get page not available.

Mazda, Wetransfer usually expires after 48 hours.  I'll re-up it later when I get home providing my head isn't completely fried by then...
HuwB

I downloaded a week or so from there, so no wonder it's expired.
Not had a chance to look at it yet in detail, but at first glance there appeared to be bits of crucial info missing......crucial to me that is.

I'll have a look on Velorooms to see if there's an alternative download.

New wetransfer link as of yesterday:

Velorooms are very good for roadbooks. They have links to downloads of pretty much every major race.

So what were you after? I have access to a library of detailed route related stuff. I will anyway post a Google Earth file of the route (same as I did a couple of years back) when I'm next doing a bit of work at the proper home computer. It can be zoomed in on, profiles calculated and so on. Any other requests? From anyone?

I'm away for some of Tour and will be bulk picking in advance. You don't want to be going down that cul-de-sac Smile

I looked through the email I got from a friend last night and there are actually many links in it. The links below are the interactive maps that ASO use on their web page but without the constraints of a little window. Overlays can be changed with buttons at top right to see things like schedule at a point, ASOs horrible yellow basemaps and so on . . .

And the promised Google Earth file. Altitude accuracy is not brilliant as Google's base data is not brilliant. Still it gives quite a good feel for the parcours. Stages to be displayed can be selected in the tree at the left and right clicking on a route in the map window will give the option to show the elevation profile. Clicking and highlighting a section of the profile will give some calculations like distance, average gradient and so on. Things like max gradient are probably exaggerated because of resolution and the already pointed out errors in Google's underlying altitude data.

ITV's scheduled coverage of the Tour.
Not sure whether this is an indicator as to which "whole" stages will be shown, but it doesn't seem to offer to many alternatives after the Dutch stages.

Umm, that link is for 2014 ?
Or are you contrasting this year with last year ?
