Pedals

well folks, Ive been a LOOK person my whole life. My current CX6 and A5.1s are getting to the disappointing level. the spring tension no long seems to function properly...feels the same at any tension. plus my CX6 pedals are starting to creak loudly under climbing forces. Each pedal stroke gets a loud snap...Im not happy about that.

Things Im considering.

Time RXS
Look KEO
Speedplay

looking for suggestions and reccomendations.

thanks

thanks berg. can you "see" what the tension setting is? On my other look pedals there are just little clicks I can feel when adjusting...but I never know what hte tension is or how to back it off. Right now they are so tight I practically have to unhinge my femur to rotate out...very frustrating...and I had to use a drill to tighten my cleats on as every exit from the pedal rotates the cleats...UGH.

nope, you canīt, itīs the typical -/+ thing

does the adjust bolt stop at the range limits?...mine seem to spin in circles forever...

I have been using Speedplays for two years and I love them. They're alittle hard to clip into, but I keep them clean now and use a little lubrication on them, and that really helps. The newer "light action" Speedplays have apparently addressed the problem, but keeping the pedla sclean and lubed works great for me. I love the huge variable float.

Ive heard good things about speedplay. Im a zero float person. Does that work?

I switched from the SPD's to the Look KEO pedals about two years ago. What a wonderful feel. I just felt like a could push more power onto the pedal with the broader cleat over the old SPD's I had. With the initial purhcase, they came with a 9 deg float cleat (red). I hated it. I switch to the 4.5 deg float cleat (gray) and I've been much happier. They also make a 0 deg float cleat (black?) too.

The bike shop put the pedals on, so I've never adjusted the tension on the pedals. They seem great to me.

I've never tried the Speedplays, but I have a few friends that have them. They all like them, but I got one friend who changed to the newer shimano pedals that are similiar to the KEO. He loved them more. He told me the same thing I experience about the feel of the power transfer from the leg to the pedal.

Yes. But given you may toe-in or out, or are neutral, the Speedplays can be locked into the best position for YOU without float.

CR, are the cleats std 3 hole design?

I think so. I use them on my Sidi's, Specialized and Lake winter shoes. They must be, right?
headwind

I suppose so then

HW - I have the KEO too. Very happy with them. I have the read cleat with loads of float, but there is a black cleat with zero float if that's what you prefer.

ive been reading a lot on roadbikereview...

pedals have a lot of variability...havent found a total slam dunk with anything.

im hopelessly bobbing around on this one.

If you can't decide .... go for the lightest! Works every time for me Wink

i just stick with Look & the red cleats as thats what i've always used and dont want to risk any chance of knee problems by changing now
Bartali

That's my theory for sticking with the red cleats too.
