tennis over, 25km left to go, break at 1'37

Although I love it when the break wins, it was a bit of damp squib.  Seeing Demare and Degenkolb just roll in way down in the pack made me think they were about as excited about winning as I was about watching.  Glad the young Belgian hope won, maybe it could be a turning point for him.

Now for a good rest during the off season.

Thanks to all for this bit of fun.  Especially Kathy and her team.

Voeckler’s Paris-Tours disappointment results in fine

Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) couldn’t hide his disappointment at missing out on victory at Paris-Tours in a two-up sprint against Jelle Wallays (Topsport-Vlaanderen), so much so that he headed straight for the team bus and failed to show on time for the podium ceremonies.

While Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme diplomatically said that “Thomas is a rider of emotions,” the commissaires took a rather dimmer view – Voeckler was fined 200 CHF and also lost out on his prize of €3,770 for finishing second.

happy about wallays winnining, i think voeckler underestimated his opinion. watching it, i thought that wallays had made an error in taking the front at 1.4km.

the one time a europcar rider works in a breakaway, they lose.

i wonder if the effort was bridging the gap with stuyven to the earlier degenkolb group had taken it out of demare. degenkolb, i don't know, it seemed that he didn't want to work and that was what did the chasing group in when sinkledam ran out of steam.  the chasing group had too many people who didn't want to work when degenkolb wasn't. i don't think you can really blame them for it.

No blame as such, just observation.  Usually when the escape makes it to the end, somehow the peloton and chasing teams don't work things out well enough.  Usually they do.  Bravo for the young Belgian and Voeckler, who was trying to save his worst season yet.  As he said later, he is getting older, not quite what he used to be.  But Thomas also said its too bad the season is over, as he was feeling fit as ever.
