Odd sounding sportif, need reality check

Just curious.  This is maybe a joke.  Perhaps another example of a strange bilingual joke.  Either way I don't think it is very funny.  Am I the only one?

I know it is actually a bilingual pun, although I have not yet traced the route on the map.  But would someone actually name a sportif like this?

I suppose it is a pun that need no explanation, the figure eight?  And the "H" is silent in French, so it is a good pun.  Except am I the only one?

Thanks for the reality check?

Oh well, it seemed worth posting at the time.

I looked at it earlier, it looked pretty good to me. Not sure about the name but looks like a nice run

Also silent to people who were raised watching CBBC as a child, at least that is my mothers opinion why I can't pronounce h Wink (one English band has made it easy for their fans calling themselves allo darlin)

You do see these names in public endurance events, at work they mentioned something that I caught as tough mother and I asked several times for them to repeat it but to no avail until I spent time googling it at home (you don't want to know the other results Wink) and got tough mudder

I wrote to the organisers and got this back.  But I never thought that anyone referred to a hard ride where there was much suffering, as "hateful".  Maybe I don't listen.

We are sorry you did not laugh or 'get' our name for the sportive.
It arose after our club rode the course and someone said that was the hardest bike ride he had ever done, he then said 'Man that was hateful'
The route is a figure of eight and the name came from that. It is also known as F8.   Many people have said they like the name and you are the first person ever to speak against it (inc many cycling magazines)
We can not please everyone all the time.
Sportive names are not to be taken too seriously and if we raise good money for our worthwhile charity I think it won't matter too much.
If you want to ride our event you can call it F8 and we will organise different momentos.

Kind regards
Graham Weeks
