Anyone suffer from any nasty falls?

I just had my 2nd nasty fall ...damn street car tracks did me in as i didnt cross over at a severe enough angle....was riding paralell with them and had to cross. When I tried to cross my front tire sunk inside and I went tumbling. Was going about 30km when it happened and ended up catching myself with my hands..only minor scrapes to my legs and forearm but my hands are hurting bad. The gloves I wore saved my skin but I have pretty significant pain in both palms and around my left thumb and right pinky...I'm tired and not going to the hospital at this hour but will go tomorrow if the pain is any worse...If I were riding the tour, I might have to abandon...not sure how I can grip the handle bars....hands are really sore.  Guess I know what Levi went thru...perhaps karma for calling him a wimp for not continuing...lol

I've had a few. Most have been with the MTB. I broke my clavicle (only hospital trip) and had a nasty fall on another trip. My few falls on the road have had minimal damage. Mostly scrapes on the legs and fingers not covered by the gloves.

I hope you recover soon.
last km

Nearly killed myself 4 years ago in the Lake District, those dry stone walls are un forgiving, and a car almost ran over me as I was lying in the road on a blind bend........the irony was I had borrowed my ex-wifes Giant...hehe

Had a major crash on the Manchester Velodrome, not my fault..could sense it was going to happen

Today am suffering like hell with my left shoulder as a consequence of the incident in the Lakes
Fontfroide

The last two falls I had, and they were the first in about twenty years, were at the slowest speeds you can imagine.  One just as I was turning a corner up in the hills, I realised that there was a massively thick layer of gravel, part of a cheap road surfacing job.  I slowed to take it easy, but the tyre just did not get to a hard spot, and as I turned ever so slilghtly, the wheel slowly slid out from under me.  No big damage, rode home, bleeding a bit.

Just about six weeks ago, I stopped on a slope, just to fix the magnet that makes the computer register.  As I was getting back on, I decided it was easier to be going downhill to clip in than uphill.  Stopped, turned the bike around, still on the bike (that was the stupid thing), and just at the moment when the slope tilted, my foot was still clipped in the downhill pedal and my weight distribution was slightly wrong, I fell.  Zero KPH.  Although it sounds unlikely, I know most of you will know exactly what I mean.  Friend of mine fell while stationary and spent a year rehabilitating his shoulder, which is apparently held together by a dozen ligaments, of which he had one left hat had not snapped. or maybe two.  Anyway the pedal dug into my right ankle, and it is still not fully healed, although apparently this slow healing can be explained by my diabetes and steroids I take for other conditions.  I rode the bike home with blood dripping out of the ankle, and thence to emergency.

I have had two other dramatic falls at speed.  One where I touched a guy's wheel in Brittany and ended up on the other side of an Armco barrier.  Witnesses claim I apparently flipped the bike over me and then back down on the ground.  That is, at one point the bike was above me instead of below me.  I also had a instant flash that if I kept going, my forearm would smash into the jagged cut bit of the Armco that holds up the longer bits.  I must have avoided it.  I was able to ride 25k more to get back, but it was not much fun.

Nearly everyone I have met who cycles has crashed.  What amazes me is how often there is no serious damage, when you would think there should be, with all the bits sticking out on the bike, metal and all, and the lack of protection we have, just Lycra.
