My new bikeBTP bottle cages arrived today (they are featherlight, so that fits the job spec for me), so I got to thinking about giving you all a progress report on my new bike build.
Yep ... starting with the small things first, in addition to the cages I now have the cassette (Campag Ti 12-26), skewers, stem, top cap and expander (all extralite).
Parlee Z3-SL (black with giro pink lettering) is being put together in the US along with Chris King headset and Easton SLX forks finished to match the frame.
Hope that's wet your appetite. Everything else is on order so more later.

WOW! I cannot wait to see the photos of your new steed. I will be thinking of you when I go to Interbike next week and look at all of the new stuff..........

Hi BB. I've been following Eurobike on another forum (weightweenies) - there's lots of nice bling this year. White is the new black (apparently) and some joker has built a 3.3kg 'rideable' bike.
Please take lots of pics and post them for us all to lust over.

Wow Bartali, really excited for ya.
Now remember, the bike can't sleep in the same bed with ya!

yes.. keeping it in your bedroom is normal .. if your single.. err.. are sleeping alone..
but since there's no way.. to actually force that loved bike.. to 'sleep' with you..
a better question would be.. would you actually be able to 'ride' it.. all night long..

i'm married and my Orbea is in the bedroom. Winter bike was demoted to the hallway.
The joys of living in a small one bedroom apartment!

That's ridiculous and actually does not look rideable. A friend of a friend who was doing the Mt. Washington Hill Climb adapted his crankset so he only had a small ring and a few sprockets, and his bike weighed 11 lbs. (5kg).

Blimey! That's what you call an easy going wife - mine gets a bag on if I just bring the bike into the living room to work on it.

BB that's HILARIOUS!
Bartali, that is truly SAD.
Bring on the Parlee. Not usre about the pink letters.

Lol BB! I'm not sure whether that is cute or a fetish?
That twisted Ti is just wrong Bart, but a reassuring amount of absorbed energy, and no shards of exploding carbon.

Right. A nice plastic collision reducing some of the impact to the rider. Not enough, I know, Bartali.

It might look ok, those Orca' the Andalucia squad are using with the red/ pink/purple...can't see shade properly paint job. I'm assuming its the same as the jersey. In which case its nice.
Besides giro pink is Bartali' colour. Wasn't he wearing his Pink Giro leaders jersey when he was blown off his bike by a driver who accused him of riding too fast? Far as I recall he was.
|
CapeRoadie

Well, he probably was riding fast. But let's hunt that driver down and have a few "words".

You're cannibalizing the Litespeed for parts, right? I mean the front wheel looks fine as do the seatpost, stem and handlebars.

Good memory ... I was in my Basso'special' CSC Giro maglia rosa. Just about the only thing that didn't get ripped.
I put the bike back together to demonstrate that I was actually hit from behind. I know this isn't CSI, but what do you guys think? Impact from the front or behind?
Forza, as far as my claim is concerned, I am calling this bike a write off. That said there might be some bits that can be saved ... however, its hard to tell wheter carbon bars, seat, seatpost, brakes etc are damaged or not? The new bike will be all new, but I might resuse some kit on another bike (drivechain looks ok apart from left crank that has a dint in it made by my shin bone ... or was it a dint in my shin made by the crank!

Good to hear from you HW
I took your advice and went for the ceramic speed.
I have to say they don't look that impressive straight out of the tin ... but hopefully they will spin well when mounted in the rear mech.

You were hit from behind. A no brainer really!! Having said that the law is funny. Common sense does not apply.
I saw a guy blown off his motorbike one morning. He left the bike where it lay on the road in order to demonstrate to the Gardai (Irish police) what had happened. When they arrived all he got was a bollocking for disrupting traffic. Yet, had he moved the bike the driver could have said anything. I was the only witness to stop. And I knew him. Others stopped too but hadn't seen what happened. Didn't matter driver accepted responsibility at the scene.
I have another real classic..But this can't be discussed here as the case is not yet closed.

As I sit here writing with kids that have been screaming at me since 7 this morning I think of what might have been in life as I gaze out at my MPV and longingly at the Condor and Cougar...jealousy doesn't quite grasp the situation.

Glad you all like it. I'll give you all a full report when I'm well enough to hit the roads again.
Hey Red ... I am very lucky in many ways, but I'd swap the bling for kids of my own! (Perhaps that's easy to say when I haven't suffered the screaming since 7am!)
