luis leon sanchez

contador maybe at 90% capacity, tough giro, saxobank not very strong, a few scrapes, and not to mention the less than qualified support of the french public! And the possibility of a ban. Plenty of negatives for contador. Still think he will win, but luis leon sanchez to push him hard. Excellent climber and TT, and in form. Evans and a schleck to contest 3rd, for me.
kathy

No chance!

I would love to see him do well, as he is a near neighbour of mine, but he will be found out in the high mountains.
Bartali

I think it depends how hard they race in the big hills.  Didn't he come second at Avoriaz last year??  Personally I think he is far too dangerous to have been 'gifted' all that time yesterday.  If its a conservative race like 2009 I can se him being there or there abouts if he doesn't panic ... and don't forget he's a lot quicker than (say) the Schlecks in the ITT.

It puts a new dimension on this week because they cant afford to let LLS and TV settle in to that time gap.  I think the big favourites would be very unwise to adopt the usual strategy of staring at each other until the last kilometre and then racing.  LLS (and his backup) is a much bigger threat than Arroyo in the Giro last year and Tommy certainly wont roll over easily either.

Sanchez was actually dropped yesterday for a time by Voekler...I can't see him hanging with the elite...

probably right smarauder68 and kathy.

maybe depends on how gesink goes, if he is injured and struggles, rabobank will switch to sanchez.
and sanchez is in good form tho.
lets see how he goes in the pyrennees.....that goes for everyone.

voeckler's ride was a death or glory shot for the lead. great to see him back in yellow. well remember his 10 days in 2004. i was there!

According to Rabo, Gesink is 'on the cusp of abandoning', and he has also crashed again today.
hengispod

yep, cumulative toll of various knocks he has picked up.
Nolte

i don't think LLS will be able to stay up in the high mountains with the main riders

However top 5 is possible and top 10 is probable
Boogerd_Fan

LLS is usually somewhere near the second group when the road goes up. He won't be able to follow the climbers but as Bart said, if he consolidates his losses and does a good ITT, podium is possible i reckon.

3 MTF's will be his downfall, but if he should lose just 2-3 minutes on each, he'll be in the top 5 in Paris.

Now he's on the cusp of recovering. Didn't actually crash but was hit by another rider while standing still.

Sanchez isn't nearly as good as Snachez. Wink

Just saw him being interviewed. He was very chirpy. Be good to have another variable for later in the week.
Boogerd_Fan

I don't count on Gesink attacking. He'll be happy to follow at least this weekend.

Maybe in the Alps if he's sitting 4th/5th/6th and needing some more time before the TT.
