Le Grand Depart 2014

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/...t-of-Edinburgh-to-the-honour.html

Disappointing that the plan is not to return to the continent by the Hull-Zebrugge ferry, but apart from that, good news for us Yorkies.
Biosphere

That's quite a surprise, but a great one for those that live up there. Personally, I'd have given it to Florence and their bid team claimed the Yorkies stumped up €4M, which is not in keeping with the normal stereotype. Unsurprisingly Prudhomme, does not list that as a factor Smile

I was so hoping for a start in Edinburgh, but at least it's back on British soil after 7 years!

I am totally pleased, though for no other reason than being totally biased in favour of Yorkshire for nearly anything. So I am happy, and might have to go to England again to see the Tour starting.  2007 was utterly excellent for me and a couple of mates.

Stage 3 ending in London on the Mall. I hope it might start somewhere near here that day Very Happy

I can see where you're coming from here, but will you be by the roadside?

The rumoured route takes in the North York Moors one day and the Yorkshire Dales the next. The race could be all over before it gets back to France!

At least there will be a lasting legacy of a few miles of fresh tarmac. Smile

Nah, They are so used to travel by TGV that they can do so again, through the Tunnel to anywhere they wish and in super quick time.
Without the time wasting security at Airports.
The Trucks can be loaded onto freight trains and get there nearly as quick and as usual while the riders sleep during the night.

Apparently the deal is done for Belfast and Dublin to host the 2014 Giro, it's just pending announcement.

Outline details of the UK stages of the 2014 Tour have been released...

Stage 1 will take in core "West Wallaby Wheeler" training terrain, and will be going perilously close to "Old Pool Bank", my favourite hill. Plenty of detours for the "Caravan", so there are no excuses to send the riders via an alternative, though of course, OPB is chuffing hard and they might not fancy it on the first day!
