last Weekendon friday i headed up to dublin to attend a few gigs. i stayed until sunday
friday
got 4:45 bus to dublin. reached dublin at 6o'clock. went to a cafe to eat and get food. nice haddock i had. was reading book while in cafe. the waittress strikes up conversation about how she really enjoyed the book (rebecca by dauphne du maurier). nice conversation. finish eating.
hbead to hotel where i am booked in to stay. go up to hotel room. leave my stuff there. see what tv stations it can get (alot of foreign ones). head out again to get toothpaste as cheap ******** have no complimentary toothpaste in hotel. cheap *******.
get toothpaste. decide to see if bookshop in grafton street, dubray books, is open. it is. browse in their for a while, buy a book "story of a shipwrecked sailor" by gabriel garcia marquez. listen to some buskers on grafton street.
finally head back to hotel to get ready fo night out at Jamie Lidell.
at around 10pm i leave hotel. find venue. the warm up act is just some repetitive dj playing terrible dance music. no one was dancing. finally at about midnight, lidell comes on stage and he is phenomenal. the energy he took to the stage. at times, thanks to no security railing, i am less than a foot from the jamie lidell. awesome. he has alot of energy. it was a wsolo show rather then a band show for him so it was him and two laptops and a percussion or something. what a show he put on. i was at the very front.
for multiply and another day, he took in audience participation whicfh was just amazing. he obviously thought i had vocals skills as he put the microphone to me twice in another day. just amazing show
Saturday
up at around half8 or so. i just can't sleep on weird beds. have breakfast. leave hotel at 10 o'clock. or so. goshopping. road records is still open thankfully (see http://justcycling.myfastforum.or...626.php&highlight=road#126626) this is due to the wake up call and the indie community in ireland realised. hell we can't let this fail. we need this shop to suceed. the com munity pulling together. anyway talking to the guy there, Dylan and he said they are hoping to get in new stock next week. let's hope so.
bought some stuff there that i didn't have
after that i want to a secondhand book shop and bought "the man who walks" by paul auster and "hav" by jan morris. did some dvd shopping in tower records.#
had lunch. a panini in the cafe mentioned earlier
went to the cinema. saw doubt, this was good, and, vicky christina barcelona, this was very good.
went back to cafe for dinner. had some cod in breaded batter. nice went back to hotel to get ready
left hotel around 7:45 for gig in aid of road records
very good
the large corporation - combination of two bands. this was loud. 3 guitars, a bass and 2 drummers. loud and good
adrian crowley - a bit laid back of a set. ok
jape - surprised jape was on early. this was good acoustic set
si schroeder - i liked this set very much
the jimmy cake - like a catclysm of sound.l excellent
left around half 12 after talking to a few people. tired. gert back to my hotel room and notice goodbye lenin was on bbc that night. watched the last hour. good movie
sunday
had breakfast, bought the observer. good paper.
checked out at around 11:40
went to get lunch. got plaice. sadly from another restaurant because the cafe was closed on sundays.
went to see watchmen. found it average
got the 5pm bus home. parents not home to collect me. so i went tol my brothers. he decided to watch napoleon dynamit
monday
had work on monday. also had sore throut. gig in evening in dundalk. messiah j and the expert (hip hop)
good gig.
