Hi Ralph, hope you're not having financial problems too like all the students in England? I imagine you're having a great time - enjoy.
BTW Don Alessandro won the Vuelta and Julien Dean became the only rider this year to complete all 3 GTs

Your fellow Scot, David Millar, won the TT yesterday, Ralph.
Enjoy Uni!

How're you settling in to student life ralph?
Are you staying in halls?
Make the most of it - in the blink of an eye you'll be graduating soon!
Good luck and keep in touch!!!!

Yep, staying in Alloway Halls. It's all downhill into town and its all uphill coming back. Would be good on a bike but the traffic is mental so I'm going nowhere near the roads just now. My money's ok, SAAS are still being buggers though and no-one ever replies to me when I send in an application form for a job

Ah, Alloway Halls - are there Burn's poems everywhere? Make sure you have a Burn's Night to honour the Bard!
Would be better if it was downhill on the way back after a few beers at the Union!!!!
Try giving them a phone to see about jobs - not as easy to ignore when you hassle them.

MJ, I just get told to apply online or hand in a CV. I don't drink alcohol, so I don't care about the uphill/downhill bit, but it is easier in the mornings when I've just got up to walk downhill There's nothing about Burns here....
What is your profession?!

Ninewells has a pretty good Burns unit....

Glad yer settling in ok Ralph. Hawk yourself round the local bike and outdoor shops. There's no substitute for showing up in person - be bright, cheery and most importantly - communicative.

The SAAS don't sound very professional - have you been on their website? It looks good....
Alloway - home county of Burns. And Ha! Ha! SS - the oldest joke in the book
I'm a chemical engineer.

Love everything he ever wrote, Burns suppers are a great night out and Tam O'Shanter is the greatest piece of poetry EVER written

There is an LBS about 10 mins away from me, but there are 2 problems with it.
1) It mostly does moutain/general purpose bikes
2) It's right near a very posh school and I have no patience for children

One year while we were in Germany I'd addressed the Haggis at a regiment officers mess do where we had some guests from other regiments. The following year I did 4 Addressing the Haggis twice and the Immortal Memory twice, then it got silly and the following year I did 7 from Rhiendahlen to Fallingbostel.
I had the huge honour being invited to the Officers Mess of the Royal Scots, the current incarnation of the Scots Greys. To see the Mess Memorablilia from Waterloo was fantastic and the honours from the Eagle taken at the battle.
My favourite "contribution" apart from dinking copious amount is to recite Tam O'Shanter, we did it best, a lit lectern in the corner, darkened dining room...fantastic

Damn cables. It's only in my room that I have problems. Right now I'm sitting in the communal area (very nice, if a bit messy)

Wireless on a laptop?
If so - you could try.....
start
run
type 'services.msc'
scroll down to wireless zero configuration
right click on the startup type column for this row, and change startup type to 'automatic'
good luck. Now get down to Cotswold in the morning and get a job.
