HighroadJust checking in from somewhere in the Pyrenees. Stayed I'm the same hotel as Columbia last night. TdF team is here training on the col de port. Aldag is a nice fella. Big George and brian holm very aimiable. KK looked a bit serious. Cav had gone the day before I arrived.
The cycling? Hard! Very hard! More later when I have a proper keyboard.

Are they going to let you train with them?

Surely the Columbia boys should be posting home to say that they are in the same hotel as Bartali!
Also, are you sure Cav wasn't still coming up the hill to the hotel rather than having gone home?
Enjoy the training!

Is this the route of the "ever thought of doing this " thread?
If so "tanto di cappello" and best of luck.
I see you took my advice of riding with people of your own standard.

Slightly different route but highly recommended.
Last three days (of five) were:
Col de Port, Portet d'Aspet, and Col de Mente
Port de Bales, Peyresourde and Col de Aspin
Tourmalet, Solour, Aubisque and Marie Blanc.
Not bad for three days riding! Total trip around 650km in five days with about 14,000m of climbing! Feeling strong and raring to go at La Marmotte in three weeks!

I'd love to say I'd ripped the legs off Hincapie and Kim Kirchen, but they were still in bed when I went out training!

Nice, Bartali! How's the knee?

Cheers Cape. Knee comes and goes in phases. Not usually troublesome, but I have to be careful pushing hard .... which means I always struggle for real power.
That said, on returning from the Pyrenees I was climbing (for 2-3 km) at an average of 314 watts which pleased me greatly. If I could sustain that for a whole climb I'd be delighted.
Weight coming down so everything is looking good for July.

Looking forward to hearing of your Marmotte experiences.

Beautiful looking area. Thanks for the shot!

Thanks Berck. It's the Marie Blanc. Fourth (and last) climb of the day ... after the Tourmalet, Souler and Aubisque!

Bart,
Are you cycling up the wrong side of the road?

I'm taking the 'racing line' SR.

That makes sense. On closer examination of the photo, I'm sure I can see Hincapie's helmet round the corner below you!

that shot gives a brilliant perspective on the gradient of the switchbacks
