Hey Silvio, Italy sucks.

Hey Silvio, Italy Sucks

“Hey Silvio, Italy Sucks”
Ever wished you could just take back words after the event. “hey Silvio, Italy sucks” are those for me. When words are taken out of context, bad things can happen.

After the Giro di Italia finished today and I was being interviewed by RAI sports, they wanted to know what targets I had in mind for my rider and the race winner, Javier Diaz Buendía. An great event for Javier ruined by my stupidity.
In the hotel room in Rome, I saw the clip being replayed ad nauseum. It was the big news story in Italy that night. I wasn’t aware that reactionary pundits could be called in on a Sunday night so easily

They were saying things like:
“How gracious for this italy hater to bless us with his teams appearance. Must have been hard for him stomaching all our great food in the 3 weeks”
“You know, I heard he had his team booked to leave Italy at 5pm. Not surprising. Wanted to get out of here as soon as possible with our ****** prize money”. Actually no, that’s not at all true, I’m watching this here from a hotel room in Rome. We leave tomorrow.

The pundits called for RCS to revoke all the remaining invites to Italian races for our team for infinity. Talk about a over reaction.
Heck, if you took any random four word combination as offensive. It’d be trouble. It did finally abate when RAI sport showed highlights of the race on their 9pm highlight show. They played the full interview, something that hadn’t happened earlier.

So what caused this furore, other then blurting out something:
Rai Reporter: So will Diaz be riding the Tour de France now?:
Luis Borges Allende (aka me):  No he won’t. We had agreed as a team at the start of the season that Michel Richet would be the team leader for the Tour de France. We feel it would be a great disrespect to the Giro d’Italia to send the maglia rosa to the Tour de France to be a domestique. The Giro deserves better than that. It is a great reason. To do so, would be like saying “Hey Silvio, Italy sucks” and I don’t want to say that.

But well, I guess manufactured scandal makes better headlines then the boring truth. It gets people attention.

Just make sure the headline is brief, to the point and outrageous for maximum indignant criticism.

That rather suggests that each of us is an island and are not affected by others attitudes towards us which IMO is not the case.

+1.

It is fanciful to believe that one's ego is unaffected by the attitude of one's peers. If your ego is unaffected, then you are a bonafide psychotic - no middle ground as far as science is concerned.

This is what makes my attitude unique. Think what you like of me, it doesn't affect me and it's not my job to change your opinion, so I don't care if you love me or hate me.

A strange attitude for someone posting to to an internet forum.  If you don't care what anyone thinks about your opinions, what do you get out of sharing them?

I think this is a valid approach on the internet, but in the wider world, if you are the only one with a particular view - particularly about how you interact with the wider world  - then it can cause problems.

For example (not an accusation), if you think your chat-up lines are brilliant but the ladies think you're boring, then you can either carry on for years and hope you eventually meet the lady who appreciates your humour, or you go for "Plan B" to increase your chances in the short term.

More seriously, if "your face doesn't fit" where you're employed, you are always going to be more at risk of "cost management initiatives" than your colleagues. In this case, you either need a new job or a to bring out a new facet of your personality.

I learn about different aspects (in this case) of cycling. Most of the posters here have been cycling for a long time and have the experience and specialist knowledge that I have yet to encounter for myself. Knowledge is power.

SR - I don't have chat up lines. If a lady doesn't like me for whatever reason then I don't view that theres something wrong (with me or her), just that she isn't interested in me being me. I refuse to pretend to be something other than myself. Short term 'chances' are of no interest to me.

If a business doesn't want to employ then thats fine, but I will make them regret it. I will get a job elsewhere and work just as hard and show what I am able to do make them realize that they made a mistake

That's a great attitude. You shouldn't let an old cynic like me dampen your enthusiasm.

I do predict, though, that before too long, a lady will make you compromise your views. Just a little bit, even if it's pretending to like a particular band or not answering truthfully to "Does my b*m look big in this?" It will be worth it though. Trust me on this. Smile
Nolte

yeah, great attitude Ralph
Ralphnorman

Care for a bet on that SR?
SlowRower

Not really, Ralph.

Firstly, I'm not a betting man.

Secondly, you would get all the upside. If you win the bet you'll have profited at my expense. If you lose the bet, it will be because you've seduced the woman of your dreams and probably wouldn't have the time or energy to send me my winnings.

Smile
