Help! 1st bike for racing

Hi, I'm new and I've decided to get into road racing. My college has a cycling club and I have experience with other aerobic sports. I've narrowed my choice down to these three bikes (I'm on a bit of a tight budget):
1. Trek 1200
2. Giant OCR 2
3. '06 Scott Speedster S40
Would all of these bikes work with clip-on aero bars for time trials?

Thanks for your help.

Any ideas?

Okay, at the risk of being flamed, you could probably post this question over at bicyclegroup.com or dailypeloton.com/forum and get a response. The lack of one here leads me to believe that folks are out ringing in the new year and haven't seen your post.

I don't race so wouldn't be the one to ask. I have been watching though just to be educated also.

good luck and CHEERS

All pretty similar bikes as far as I know. Unless the Scott is a tri bike, and I don't know if it is (I wouldn't get a bike built for triathlon if you're road racing).

Ever thought about a used road bike from e-bay? I got a 2004 Trek 5200 for short money in 2005. Great bike, they're still out there, and the prices keep dropping. Big difference between aluminum and carbon.

Get a professional fit on the models you want, then search e-bay for the bikes, buy from a reputable seller and that would be how I'd go about it. You might end up with a carbon frame that way. No scratches, though!

Yes all above bikes are more or less the same (Cost and components). The Specialized allez is the same and I've seen them heavily discounted. This would save money so you can get pedals and a new set of wheels. Ask your future club mates. Their might be a good bike going up for sale.

Caperoadie post above is good advice. Get yourself measured for correct fit.
If you go for a secondhand carbon frame good luck with the paranoia you'll have looking for cracks in the frame, but you'll have one clean bike.

Good luck and Enjoy

See! I knew the folks who know about bikes would reappear.

Happy New Year all!

They are all the same. Like Cape says, for your first roadie, get measured properly at your LBS to make sure you get the right size. In many circumstances this will add or eliminate possible bikes in getting the frame that fits you best. When you get the all in one bike (ie all components already in) be sure to get the right size even if it means getting a different bike (or see that the components, like stem length, can be exchanged). The clip on nature will be handle bar dependent not bike dependent. Check with the sales person.

heave a great season.
