Farewell Seamus Heaney.....

There's a handwritten (by the man himself) piece on the wall of my local, dedicated to Edward, the licensee at the time.... Seamus had been known to call in, but not for some time....  could listen to him speaking all day.... a sad loss...

Aye, the loss of a great poet is always poignant I think.  A knowing that we have only the words left, and not the voice?

I liked his comment on receiving the Nobel Prize:

Asked how it felt having his name to the Irish Nobel pantheon featuring William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Samuel Beckett, Heaney responded: "It's like being a little foothill at the bottom of a mountain range. You hope you just live up to it. It's extraordinary."

RIP Seamus Heaney. Good to know that we lived in the same age as a great poet.
