I think I have grown tired of the All National team for each CT and also of the Old Guys team.  Maybe I will try an all native Anglo speaking one if I have time this week.  I rather like the picking a team and then just watching them, takes less time than picking a guy for this race then that race.  Lazier really, a bit like me.

FF if thats your game, why not pick an all Italian team. They're more fired up and motivated to do well in the Giro than any Anglo-riders.

Daft question, but I've never got around to having a go, before.
When you register for the first time, is you username the name of your team, or just your ordinary username?
Mrs John Murphy

Your username is your username and you can use it for any race any season.

Your team name is chosen when you first set up your team.

So for example my username is Mrs John Murphy
HuwB

Ok: Ferrari Fanboys:

Albeefy Contador
Vince Nibali
Micky Scarponi
Ale Puff Petacchi
Tyler Farrar
Manuel Belletti
More EPO Sella
Jose Rujano
Dom Pozzivivo

I take it we can submit more than one team, judging from what I am seeing here............

Has anyone selected joker stages yet?
HuwB

Also just noticed that a lot of riders who are down to ride, aren't up for selection.
Will the list get updated, I wonder............

Yes. Noel is pretty good.

If you give a list of who is missing I can let him know and we can get them added.

Maybe he's waiting on confirms?

A lot of teams on 7 or 8 riders.
Cack have 6 and no Machado
Rabo no Slagter.
Vacan have only 4 riders..........
Mrs John Murphy

This was the email from Noel he sent round this morning

Hi all

The fantasy Grand Tours season starts next week with the Giro d\'Italia. Team creation is now open and all riders expected to ride are available to be picked except for some neo-pros which will be added to the database tomorrow. Rider list will be updated as team rosters are confirmed if different to provisional lists so feel free to create your team now and check back at the end of the week to make last minute changes if needed.

Best regards and have fun,
Noel

MJM, I have always used the same email address for all my teams - there has never been any problem Confused

I am entering a team with only those who speak English as their first language, just for 'fun'.  Thing is, I can't find many climbers, which I never suspected would be a problem.  I was wondering if any of you could PM me with some Anglophone climbers that I don't know about.  Thanks.
Fontfroide

Even had time to try to enter a team of French riders.  But I discovered there are not enough to fill a team.  Apparently the French riders, with a few exceptions are saving themselves for their own Tour, or of course almost no French teams have been invited, or hardly any French riders ride for non-French teams which have been invited.  AG2R is an exception, since they are pretty good.  I knew about Italians not going to the Tour, but I had not figured that there are almost no French riders in the Giro.

Live and learn.

Other than Evans, there doesn't seem to be much choice.  Dario Cioni is a climber of sorts, I suppose.  You could pick Dutch and Belgian riders - they all seem to speak English???

Edit - Oops Evans isn't riding, is he?
Mrs John Murphy

Huw - you are probably the person who is most in the know about who is in and who is out.

If you list the riders who are missing I can pass them onto Noel to add to the list.

I know that the likes of Machado, Duarte etc are missing.

French 9:

Gadret
Le Mevel
Dessel
Feillu
Pineau
Cazaux
Berard
Cherel

HuwB

MJM: I will be off the PC most of today. New windows (house not PC!) being fitted.
Is there any way to cut and paste Noel's list?
If not, I'll try to go through them one at a time, which probably means tomorrow, at the earliest.
Fontfroide

Hey MJM,
Thanks for the tip, I must have missed some of the French guys.  So I think I will just enter them all in a Frogs team.  See what happens.  I appreciate the trouble you took.  Thanks.
Fontfroide

So Les Froggies is now entered, just as MJM's research suggested.  IN fact, I consider it 'our' team, since without his help I would not have bothered.  In fact, it was kind of useful, as I have never heard of some of those riders, especially the younger ones, who are probably there just to support and to get in a break.  WE'll see if I guess right on the jokers.  In any case, it will give me (and anyone else, a chance to see how the French do in the Giro, although the very best guys are not really riding.

Adds a bit of fun.  Ta, MJM.

For no overwhelmingly good reason at all, I only wanted English speakers whose first language is English.  Actually I sometimes think the English spoken by foreigners is better than some of the English spoken by Anglophones.

I added Cioni, I forgot he was born in England.

Me, a fan?

I'm thinking that this format is the way to go.  Multiple team picks detract from fair competition but would be fun to play around with I suppose.  FP's are good for getting fully engaged in the race, but it gets time consuming and when all the picks are made there isn't a whole lot of difference between everyone elses'.  Sure, it's the nature of the beast and it's all just for fun anyway.  Research it, pick 'em, forget it and enjoy the rest of the race for me.
Mrs John Murphy

Being unfamiliar with the site I first logged in and made a 'practice' team.  I didn't pick any jokers and 1 or 2 riders ended up not even starting.  That team is now a firm 82 points ahead of my 'real' team!   Embarassed

You can set your jokers before any stage of the race. You click on 'edit team' and then set the jokers. So you can still pick them for the rest of the race.

Forgive me for being old fashioned and into 'our team', but I am dead pleased Bartali is doing so well.  I think it is harder to win one of these fantasy leagues than to win the Giro.  Did I just write that?  Can't be.

In any case, even if the Giro has a few days to run, nice one Bartali.  I rather like your style and excellent contribution to this forum.  And picking a good team too.  Plus riding that pretty bike of yours up hills.  Congrats.

I notice that the second team, presumably GS Legano, has dropped a bit, nearly as low as the underfunded, but spiritually excellent team from Occitan.  Except Pozzovivo, who has betrayed my trust.  And Di Luca, who I never did trust.  Big mistakes.  Like i make every year.

I do like the games where you pick a team and then sit back and watch them.  Picking a winner for each stage is quite a strain.

Further, I find our experimental, not 'real' teams, a bit of good fun.  We do know how to play.

Biosphere

Well done Bart. It's tough at the top - you need 100+ points to move up 5 places, whilst me just missing out on the JC podium (Va Bene) just needed 5 points to move up 5 places.

Took Ferrari out of my team for Vigano on the train to Turin on the opening day trying get a different angle. My friend though on the same train took out Gadret. That annoyed him. Laughing

Bloody always on smartphone internet too much time for double guessing Wink
Fontfroide

Tough race, but we all did pretty well.  sorry you missed the podium Bart.

I made my usual bad choice.  But did well enough.  Had I picked Rujano and not Pozzovivo, I would have been tenth overall.  It was a toss up for me, I really just guessed.  Wrongly.

Won't never ever make such a blunder in the Tour.  Although this Giro, none of my riders dropped out.  I do like this particular competition though.

Although I did much better on Cobblestone.  Go figure.
kathy

Pozzovivo didn't finish the race, FF.  I didn't even get to play my joker on him Laughing

Pozzovivo did for a lot of us, I'm afraid. Once considered an outside bet for the top 5, this is his second consecutive disaster at the race.
Other notable failures, Farrar and Sella.

All things considered, I'm pleased to have made the top 100 (last! Embarassed )

Didn't even notice he dropped out, just kept seeing a big fat zero next to his name.

Mind you, I also kept waiting for DDL to make a move, just one, and he failed me too.  Although I remember admiring his attacking style a couple of years ago, or maybe even last year, I guess it was mostly drugs.  I see the Katusha lot are not even racing him in the Tour, an ALL-Russian team.  More spelling nightmares.
kathy

I have spelling nightmares with the FP's  - I can do Kiryienka and Kreuziger now, but I guess I'll have to learn to spell the new young (and unpronouncable) K who rides for Rabobank Laughing  Laughing (Sounds a bit like 'crosswick' the way people say it!)
Fontfroide

I try really hard to get all the Basque names, but hey, there are limits to multiculturalism.

the good thing about names in Russian script (lad also with living in France, where they spell names differently than in English) is that it turns out that no one is quite certain how you make the sounds in Russian with Romance language scripts.  So as long as it is vaguely recognisable, it is hard to say it is wrong.

Or maybe he was riding in support of his team leader?  Funny how you can spin these things two ways.
