"the mighty Gas"
50 years later I can still remember most of the first team I ever saw...
Nicholls
Bamford ????
Pitt? ??? Mabbutt
Petherbridge Biggs Bradford Ward Hooper.
It was against Preston North End who had a player named Finney I think..
The last match I saw was Everton v Liverpool in 1986. Rush scored after about 9 seconds and Liverpool won 3-1 but Everton won the League.
I could probably make a reasonable attempt at naming the Liverpool team and maybe half of Everton, but we didn't have dope at Eastville so the memory is clearer.
Thank you for indulging an old Gashead!

Good Night Irene,
Good Night Irene,
I'll see you in the Morning
Harry Bamford, Jack Pitt and Geoff Bradford - that's nearer 60 than 50 years ago

I think it was 1958, I was 10 years old. Only saw Harry Bamford play once before he got killed in a motorbike accident I think.
At least 3 internationally capped players in that team - in 3rd division south!
Possibly their highest ever league position?
