Eneco Tour

Just to remind people that the Eneco Tour is taking place this week.  There seems to be a decided lack of interest on the FP thread! Rolling Eyes
Fontfroide

Looking at things, maybe next year, rather than fearlessly predicting both the Tour of Poland and Eneco, we can skip those two, take a wee break, and come back refreshed.  Thing that bothers me about these new made- up Tours, beside the fact that I have no interest in them, is that you never know who is good shape and trying to win, or who is there for training purposes for real races they want to win a bit later.  So you pick people who are not really trying, but you don't know until the race is over.  Not like the Grand Tours or the Spring Classics or the Worlds where you know that anyone good is going to be really trying, and is probably in fine shape. Probably.  With these second rate races and "Team Bs" that ride, you just never know.  So it is a lottery and there is not much enthusiasm.

Eneco Tour is a perfect example.  Most of us simply don't care or are on holiday or....  I am playing to "do the right thing", but if we just didn't have the race it would suit me fine.

Just a thought.   Also its not as much fun when hardly anyone is playing the game.
Bartali

Agreed FF.  That's why I've stopped playing - just too much for me.

Off topic / wrong thread, but I'd stick to the GTs, monuments. PN, TA and the worlds.  Just my two pence!

thats a good strategy.. half way through the Tour i got a bit weighed down in other things and found it hard to comment each day for a stage winner.. didnt even start for Eneco!

i like eneco
eneco is about making hard races and i quite like this belgian style of racing of hardness. with the mini flanders, mini lbl and mini amstel, i think they certainly make it more interesting than the first years of the race.

todays stage saw a big crash involving stybar, he didn't look good. porsev another rider involved in crashes.

Today was a mini Wevelgem (without Kemmel) and tomorrow is a cross between RVV and Kuurne.

Reported that the Stybar crash has Teeth and Nose damage (I know that well) but no bones broken.    Very Happy

Actually, so far, when I have watched the last few k, I failed to see any hardness at all, just a flat stage with a sprint finish.  Did I miss something.  Maybe int he next few stages, but so far, three sprint finishes, and a short ITT.  Not that great for my taste.

But my main gripe with these in between races is that you never know who is serious and who is not.  Too much "training race" riding.  Riders getting back into shape, getting ready for something else.

Fun starts tomorrow FF Wink I'm not entirely convinced that Eneco or Poland suffer any more from training rides than, say, Tour de Suisse, Dauphine or TA.  Different kinds of races for sure, but those with their sights on the Eneco GC - Stybar, Dumoulin, Van Avermaet - will give it their all, while some, like Boonen and Cancellara, won't.  Those that want to win usually do...

That was a nasty crash today that put Stybar out.  These things happen in a flash in sprints but they can be bloody horrible when a rider takes a full face plant.

Just speculating why those boards with feet sticking out were used so close to the finish.  Cheaply funded race?  Carelessness?  Stupidity?  Those things disappeared a few years ago in the Tour and I notice that they have also disappeared in most other races.  Bit of a shame that.  The replays show how close Lars Boom was to doing the same thing.  His tyres must have come within a centimetre or two of the several of the legs as he weaved around them at speed.  I marvelled.  Some crashes cannot be avoided, it is a dangerous sport.  But some can.  Eneco messed up.

As for Eneco, I await something other than a sprint finish.  I like sprint finishes, just that one after another  And I do think that if no one much picks winners, then this COULD show that August is not a great time for FPs and we should give it a break.
Boogerd_Fan

interesting plight for Belkin.. if they defend Boom's race lead, they're gifting more UCI Points to some opposing team in next years reshuffle.

But i assume they will be desperate to hold on to the GC cos wins have been short this year.
Bartali

.... and that is why the points system is so stupid!!
Nolte

the cloud above the break does not look good for the riders
kathy

Well, I'm happy with the end of today's race even if no-one else is Laughing
Fontfroide

Indeed Kathy.  The last three k were very good racing.  Even though my guy didn't do very well, yours certainly did.  We had several good FPers today.

Wellens continues his fine upward curve with a nice controlled win, but what were Belkin playing at*?

*Not necessarily the first time that particular question has been asked... Wink
