electric groupsetHas anyone seen/tried one? The comic has a multi page advert masquerading as an article on the new Shimano 7900 dura ace, and the thing that strikes me most about it - is the crappy little spring that's not even attached properly.
It does sound to have some very interesting features, but I think all of them are too untried to spend a shedload on; Hollow outer chainring, directional chain with asymetrical links and a self adjusting mech.

And when it runs out of power 60 miles from home ....?

I was thinking along similar lines.
The joy of a bike is that if required you can pretty much take it apart and put it back together.
Once you go down this route it's like a modern car, you need a laptop as well as a set of wrenches to make it work properly.

Same here, you're halfway up a steep bit and the self adjusting mech decides to self adjust you into the ditch.
I really don't see what the problem was, that this is the solution to?

I think its intended to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics. Even though the cables are frequently threaded through the frame, they are still exposed at some point.

I would be fascinated to know the % improvement that threading cables makes, and whether anyone has ever won a race by that margin.
Surely there's a limit. I would have thought that cutting your little finger off would be a lot more effective but you don't see them queueing up for that one.

You might have started something there grrr, I bet WADA doesn't have regs for self mutilation! "I'd like a digitectomy, a costeaectomy, 2mm planed off my skull and multiple trepanning please"

There will be no slowing the technology if it works. I'd love to ditch cables. A back-up battery would solve the problem of a "power outtage". I think it's a COOL idea.

battery life is supposed to be good.

It's probably going to happen.

Maybe the battery power could be diverted to drive train, saving me from having to pedal.

You still have to pedal, but you just discover 100 watts of extra power-handy when you have just made a bet with your mate on who will be the first to the top of the hill and the loser will be buying the beers.

And how about a small motor to turn those pesky little pedals too.
