Couple of local Birds.....

Took these last weekend.....also got a huge dose of Sunburn!!!

Happy Feet Time

nice one, just seen the penguin film with my family last weekend too...

Did these two characters get to vote in the referendum?
MAILLOT JAUNE

Brilliant photos - did you manage to get real close or have you got a good zoom?

Looks as if it's party time in the Falklands after the vote!
Biosphere

Wow! Would love to get to try my hand at doing something like that. Will you get a chance to do more?

Coincidently, went to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition that's running here at the moment. A penguin photo was the overall winner. Some absolutely stunning shots if you like that sort of thing - recommended if  anyone gets a chance and the National History museum is convenient to get to.

PF - Don't think so, that would have tipped the fairness balance a tad....mind you 98.8% voted to stay British!!

MJ - Both really, Canon 100 - 400mm L series Zoom and you can get within a couple of feet, they are very tame and very used to people these days

Bio - Plan to get out more when I can. There's a King Penguin colony and Rockhoppers at at place called Volunteer Point but access is by boat or Helicopter. There's Sealions, Leopard Seals and Elephant Seals there as well plus the only sightings of Whales in the last year or two, be worth getting to if I can buy the right heli-tasking guy a pint at the right time!!

Rats with wings.....

MAILLOT JAUNE

Amazing photos cadence - even the rats with wings look brilliant!
Do you use a tripod for shots like that?
berck

MJ is right cadence, great photos. What type of setup do you use?
cadence

Thanks for the nice comments...no tripod on those or most of the photos I take.  The camera is an inexpensive Nikon D5100 with a 55-300mm lens.

I did use a tripod for this pic.

Very impressive shots Cadence. Birds in flight are a big challenge! I really like the way the sunlight is coming through the Egret's wings (well I'm guessing it's an Egret - not very clued up on these things).

I don't believe you have this bird on the continent....

Biosphere

Related to catching things in flight, I thought this was very impressive Smile

One thing that might not be 100% clear from the write up is that the internal shutter on the camera (the one that would normally be opened for a short space of time to capture the image) is open 'permanently', leaving it to the external shutter that blacks out the front of the lens to open and close rapidly and the 2 flashes are synced to go off while the external shutter is open.

I see spring has arrived Smile

Not bird related, but since this is the photography show and tell some photos from the one afternoon with a bit of decent weather in the mountains during the week. A landscape from when I had 5 mins to myself and wasn't being told by little people to photograph them climbing rocks, playing on the last of the snow or building a dam.

Wow, those are some great photos Biosphere, is that what you do for a living?
Biosphere

Gosh no. Just like taking photos. Thanks, but I couldn't really go too far wrong with pretty mountains and lake.
