Commonwealth Games

I realised we don't have a thread on the Commonwealth Games and we've missed a lot of the track events. But still

Leading cycling medal winners at Glasgow 2014

Australia: 14 (four gold, six silver, four bronze)

New Zealand: 7 (three gold, four bronze)

England: 6 (two gold, three silver, one bronze)

Scotland: 3 (two gold, one silver)

Wales: 2 (two bronze)

Kennaugh takes silver for the IOM

Australia and NZ dominating.

Australia might not look quite so good if broken down into their constituent parts ...

it is especially the biggest plus when it comes to austrailia and new zealand in the team competitions
Mrs John Murphy

Well there is a lot of barren desert in Australia

Can't see Millar winning this, although he is nicely rested.
Dowsett, Durbridge or Thomas ?
Nolte

come on andrew roche Smile

the women's tt was quite interesting. villumsen taking it from pooley by 6 seconds
Nolte

the great thing with the commonwealth games time trials is plenty of good time triallists

The BBC commentators are hedging their bets: They seem to be favouring Dennis, but with the caveat that Thomas may have ridden himself into form in the Tour or be kn*ckered, with no idea quite how well Millar and Dowsett will go as they've no recent form.

One thing is for sure, the Welsh guys in red and white on their Sky bikes with Sky helmets look really dodgy!
SlowRower

Dowsett looks even worse on Mobistar bike and helmet!

Boardman now tipping Dowsett after all riders have done the first time check.

Dowsett, Sergent, Durbridge, Thomas and Dennis covered by a handful of seconds at this point. Millar off the pace.
SlowRower

Dowsett
Dennis +7
Thomas +11
Sergent +15
Durbridge +32

Just shy of halfway.

Looks like it may be Dennis then - on the logic that he's the one I left off my list.
SlowRower

At 2/3 distance:

Dennis
Dowsett +6
Thomas +7
Serg +38

Durbo's turbo has blown
Nolte

fast men are coming in now

geraint thomas taken the lead from svein tuft who took it from marcus christie
SlowRower

Ouch...

Dowsett wins
Dennis +10
Thomas +15

The rest well down

Interesting observation: Millar and Dowsett both didn't ride the Tour and finished minutes apart. Thomas and Durbridge both did ride the Tour and also finished minutes apart. Millar and Durbridge rode almost exactly the same time, as did Thomas and Dowsett. I guess the jury's out as to how fast you can recover from the Tour!

As time trials got, I thought it was quite exciting, given the gaps between the top 3 was always small and the lead changed hands on several occasions.

Thomas said he never felt fast at any time, just strong.

Dave's done..... said as much to Jill Douglas, it's becoming a younger man's game across the board

Cracking womens RR this morning, Armistead won from Pooley and the South Africa Ashley Pasio in third... Was impressed with young Scot katie Archibald hanging with the lead group till the last lap, very impressed

excellent, i just turned it on (read "got up") with 45km to go and then shortly after it, the 5 rider group went off the front and the chase archibald (with elvin just sitting on her wheel) had to do with pooley driving it on was very hard and she did very good. the 2 english riders for the group were their best 2 while i think austrailia did not have the selection of 2 they would have wanted.

it just was a really good race

kennaugh going hard today
Nolte

54km to go

kennaugh

shane archibold, jack bauer, ewan, moses, luke rowe, scott thwaites, russell downing, davidmillar, mark renshaw, greghenderson, scully, dan craven, simon clarke at 1:15

nathan hass, downey at 1: 37

simon clarke bike change and now with haas and downey
MAILLOT JAUNE

What a stonking ride by Thomas! Missed the final hour, as I had to go out, so was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised at G's win! Especially as I met him on the Champs Elysee the week before!
