Best groupsetOkay, so what do you guys think and why?

I think that Campy is thought of as the best because of its history, and its Italian. Frankly, I don't see much difference between them and Shimano in quality. Both are great products. I've played with both and prefer the Shimano integrated shifters much better than the Campy version.

All joking apart ... I think it comes down to the shifters and what one prefers.

True, I don't like the thumb shifting on the campy. I've heard that the SRAM single lever shifter is really nice, but the feedback I get from bike mechanics is that SRAM just isn't up to Shimano and Campy standards.

SRAM...have heard from many different people that they rate them as the best and from the spec, I'd have to agree.....

Lol - largely rhetorical for me this as I have no frame of reference, but are Record not still hand finished?
What I would like, is a pair of non indexed shifters for poor dolts like me, because I hate the unfixable little 'ticks' coming from slight misalignments in cheaper sets, or more specifically in my butchered sora set.

Yah. Which is why I don't like Campag. Have Sora on an old bike they are fine but after using the integrated shimano, I much prefer them.

What about SunTour?
Shimano has style and its quite reliable.

SunTour used to make the best rear mech on the market ... until they lost the patent. SunTour Cyclone!

I ride Shimano but Shimano's business practices have pissed everybody off. For that I may switch to Campy as a matter of principle. SRAM not sure about yet.

most of my stuff is Shimano...shoes, pedals, chainset, groupset.....

It's interesting that campag is often thought about as the stylish groupset rather than Shim.
I ride campag, but dura ace is out of this world when it comes down to performance based on my mates ride.

my campag experience is 20 years out of date, but the amongst those who have tried both recently it seems that the head says shimano and the heart says campag.

Where did this myth come from that Campy is more stylish than Shimano? The new Dura-Ace Carbon is a work of art.

Good point, it does look great.
I meant that people often side with campag based on the fact it is Italian in my experience, and will ignore the benefits of shim even though it just as good. I think there was a snob factor and people thought that campag was better.
That is changing all the time, and I personally think that if it is from japan then its fly-so to speak.

I love campag - unlike alot of people I actually like the button down change. And you have the added bonus that your equipment has been touched by dusky maidens near Vicenza.

Campag is tops for me ... no doubt about it.
FP - the new DA carbon chainset looks great ... but it did come out three years after the campy UT. If you want stylish, look no further than the THM Clavicula!

Shimano Dura Ace shifts like butter. I like Campagnolo wheels better than any others. My carbon Neuvation wheel-creaking was cheap hubs and spokes. I am having them re-built-up with DT Swiss hibs and round spokes which will be much better for me as a heavier rider. The whole Shimano vs. Campagnolo thing is fairly ridiculous, as one makes some great things and so does the other. You can have the best of both worlds.

Kawasaki or Norton
Nissan Z or Maserati
Suzuki twist and go or Vespa GS Sprint
It's always the difference between reliability and pedigree...each to their own...
