Waiting for ITV tonight Confused
Biosphere

Ah, a bit of FP good fortune Smile

Gilbert takes the win.

And Rodriguez slipped away with him for some handy seconds - 18 in total Shocked
MS

Nicely done today by Rodriguez. He should be right in this until the end.
gerry12ie

J Rod racking up them seconds.  He's smart.
cyclingtv

sky team showing wear and tear? sure seems that way..

Advantage Froome over Martin...advantage climbers who can descend...I think Froome takes 2:20 on Rodrguez and :45 secs on AC...Martin finishes 2nd to Froome.

that's more than a hill in the middle..
up a 480 meter cat 3 then back down..
makes up nearly 30km of the 40km tt..
so gaps might be smaller than one expects..

There was some discussion of the ITT in the older thread, so figured I'd just quote them above to nudge responses over here.

I think I would put Martin as the favourite for the stage which is neither here nor there in the bigger picture. Before yesterday I'd have thought Froome will beat Contador as the best of the GC contenders, but now I'm not so sure.
Bartali

Looking fwd to catching up tonight, but very much liking JRod at the mo.  Reminds me of DDL in the 2009 Giro ..... love the little fella scrapping for absolutely everything!

Very good comparison, except perhaps a little less dodgy of a character.
Boogerd_Fan

Great and timely win for Gilbert.. however look at JRod and Phil having a chinwag at the top of the Montjuc; Phil sits up until JRod mutters something and then both take turns until the finish. Gifted win in my view. Big winner JRod today.

I certainly hope so  Shocked
HuwB

Had to wait until now to watch.
Rodriguez as clever, as the rest were clueless.
Caught with their pants down.

Who would have thought that Gilbert would have to wait until almost September to get his first win of the season?

I see that Sky's reply to Valverde having a wave at them yesterday, was to stick two fingers up to Movistar, today at Plouay.
HuwB

I hate Mondays.
Yesterday, there were 4 live races, 3 on Eurosport and 1 on RTP to watch.
Today, we have 1 live race and it's the rest day. Sad

Oh and the holiday weather is turning typically foul.
Biosphere

About 100km to go and 2 man break has gap of 4 mins being which is being controlled by sprinters teams. Unless we get a bit of fun with echelons, tune back in 99km Smile
kathy

No!  Enjoy some of the best coastal scenery in Spain!
Biosphere

I will later, but for now the CN text ticker doesn't do it justice Smile
cyclingtv

seems like a rest stage so far today.. avging 37-38 kph..
kathy

cyclingtv wrote:

Perhaps the riders are enjoying the scenery Wink
cyclingtv

yes kathy that could be..

commentators on universal reporting purito saying he
could lose 2 1/2 to 3 minutes tomorrow.. I don't think so..
HuwB

Great coastline.
The peloton coasting, not so good.

Finally starting to pedal with purpose.
kathy

They're going a bit faster now...
Biosphere

So Cobo didn't have the rest of two men yesterday  Wink
smarauder68

Sounds like Sky are trying to control things today...Will Froome have a go?
Beasley

It was a flat stage, Scott. No time to be won or lost; the GC teams were just doing their bit to keep everyone happy.

Degenkolb looks utterly dominant.
HuwB

Henao put out the back door by his own team.
Swift is clearly out of form, yet Sky keep driving up the pace
from way out.
A heck of a lot of domestique work to keep Froome right at the front
(and having to graft himself) for no return.

Degenkolb has become the Vuelta's Sagan.
smarauder68

Fearless Predictions for Stage 11:

1)C.Froome........47:33
2)T.Martin...........47:41
3)A.Cuntador......48:03
21)Valverde.......48:59
33)JRod.............49:30

New GC after Stage 11:

1)Froome...............
2)Cuntador.......:37
3)JRod.............1:07
4)Valverde.......1:40

AC has 4 stages to take 37 seconds...Should be a great battle all the way to stage 19.
Bartali

Is this guy any good? I confess I've never heard of him.  Embarassed

Well either we are reading this race wrong or Sky aren't the master tacticians that the TdF hype suggested ... but I guess we new that after the OG RR.
Boogerd_Fan

Interesting JRod media soundbite on CN about losing  2:30 or 3:00 !!

But if he's been training for mountains then maybe his flat speed is a bit impacted?
Bartali

Mind games I think ...
kathy

As far as sprinters go, I don't think Degenkolb has much competition in this Vuelta.  Bennati is way past his best, and the rest, Bouhanni, Meersman, Viviani etc are second rate.  I wouldn't rate Degenkolb until he's contested a few sprints against the likes of Cav, Kittel and Greipel, although he's had other good results this season.

Bouhanni isn't even the best French sprinter currently, is he?
kathy

I was at a local hostelry tonight, where there was a betting machine.  One of the things that flashed up' on the screen were the current odds for the Vuelta.

Berto 1.7
Froome 2.5
Purito about 5 (can't remember exactly)
Alejandro 125 - surely worth an EW punt, if I was a betting woman (which I'm not!).
Bartali

125-1?  That's got to be worth a punt though I'd quite like Rodriquez to 'steal' it.
smarauder68

My site showed Valverde at 33-1....Still not bad considering he's only a minute and change off the pace and he should just about catch JRod tomorrow. He may just need a Contadope crash and then out-sprint Froome a couple of times for bonus seconds.
Biosphere

The favourites are all going on about a dodgy descent today and talking up each others chances. The mind games are in full swing Smile

So will it be proper ITT bikes today, or will they opt for their climby 6.8kg road bikes?
Bartali

My guess is that Froome will go ITT bike and Valverde and Purito will go with the road bike.
Biosphere

Bartali wrote:

Cos you think Froome needs to make hay today?
HuwB

All the times, including the split times available here:
http://www.lavuelta.com/12/en/resultados/crono.html?e=11

ATM, Castroviejo leads by...................a lot.
Boogerd_Fan

Boom smashing it, but i guess he is setting marker times for the 1st sector for Bauke & Bobby?
HuwB

Meyer takes the lead by 17 seconds.
Boom goes boom on the climb.
Tony "Mediocre" Martin.

Cos I think that's the kind of school boy error Sky are likely to make ... like sending Wiggo out last year so highly geared he could hardly turn the cranks round.  Perhaps the danger of focusing on the numbers whilst missing the bigger picture.  What do I know ... all in my head I'm sure.

Still waiting on ES
HuwB

Porte 12 seconds ahead at the 2nd CP.

30 minutes before we get any live pictures.

I was about to type that he was laying down markers for Contador, but then my brain caught up Smile
Biosphere

Kessiakoff is smashing it!
HuwB

Biosphere wrote:

Too right.
Could end up a minute faster than Richie Porte.
smarauder68

Wow!

Martin must not have liked that climb and descent much...he finishes 4th as of now and likely to fall out of the top 10 by day's end.

How's the weather?

the time's are much slower than I suspected. I figured they would make up a lot of time on the descent. Must have been a very technical descent.
smarauder68

Does anybody think AC will beat Froome today and slip on red?
smarauder68

Best guess for winning time is???

I'll go with 51:20 after watcing the first 2/3's of the field come in.
HuwB

Wot?
Kessiakoff 1'-15" faster than Porte. Shocked
kathy

Kessiakoff takes the lead!
maffy

was that jani-b's majik krystal he was wearing or just a dangly zip?
smarauder68

With 2 minute gaps in the starting times, it could be really interesting if AC catches Valverde...
Bartali

I'm looking forward to this ...

Why is Froome warming up with what looks like tissue paper up his nostrals?
kathy

Purito warming up in the shade - Alejandro was in the sun!
Biosphere

smarauder68 wrote:

And badly surfaced apparently.
smarauder68

Bartali wrote:

Allergies?  Sometimes I stuff tissue paper in my nostrils to avoid a chronic running nose...
HuwB

Coverage is useless.
More shots of the Spanish lads swanning around the start
than of riders on the course.

So far we have seen nothing of either the climb or descent.
smarauder68

Fearless prediction:

Purito will be just outside the 4km banner when Froome finishes.  That would put him about 2:20 behind.
Bartali

It's like standing on an aircraft carrier counting the Sea Harriers out and back.
smarauder68

To anybody watching the live coverage, who is going faster? Froome or AC?
kathy

Don't understand the TV caption -Froome 9sec behind Berto???
smarauder68

Cycling news has AC 8 secs faster than Froome...kinda surprising to me.  Froome MUST beat AC today if he has any hope.
Bartali

Game on ...
smarauder68

Contador may fade some...Froome has it down to 4 secs now...Should be very close at the first check.
kathy

Berto 4 sec up on froome before the hill
Bartali

JRod 30" ... about right me thinks
smarauder68

Contador climbing faster than Froome now...Who's a better descender?
Bartali

Why's Harman beating upon Rodrequez when he's doing exactly what weveryone expected ...?
smarauder68

Will AC fade as he did at the 2008 Olympics? Can Froome pull back 10 seconds on the descent?
kathy

Bartali wrote:

Cos Purito's Spanish?? Laughing
HuwB

I don't trust the GPS.

Froome suddenly appears up on Contador, after being down, while Purito looks a lot slower than 42 seconds back.
smarauder68

Froome pulls back 6 seconds on AC on the climb...WTF??? Wow!
Bartali

Good skills Don Alejandro

Cos Harman's a  Safe  maybe!
smarauder68

Looks like Kessiakoff is going to stun the world and win this thing....where'd that come from?
kathy

GPS always seems to be useless on climbs
Bartali

Froome being slowly dismantled here ....
smarauder68

Froome lost 12 seconds on the climb...Can he gain them back on the descent?
HuwB

Nope. Froome's form is starting it's downward curve.
Big surprise is that Purito is still in virtual red.
smarauder68

Bartali wrote:

Not much is known about Froome's descending because he was always ushering Wiggo around in France....if he can descend faster than AC, he should catch up or get close enough to earn red.
kathy

HuwB wrote:

Only just though!
kathy

But Purito descending fastest!
gerry12ie

I am still helping the harvest so I am relying on you guys.  How much of the run in is flat?
Bartali

Come on Purito !!!
smarauder68

Looks like AC got a hold of some good Power Bars or something...Vuelta could be over if this continues.
Bartali

Forget Bertie for a mo ... the interesting gap here is between Froome and Purito
Bartali

smarauder68 wrote:

Either that or your man is having a shocker!!!! Shocked  Shocked  Shocked
cyclingtv

4 minutes to go for AC.. froome@20s.. jrod@54s..
kathy

Gerry, about 3.5km
smarauder68

Is Froome riding scared on this descent or what?
gerry12ie

kathy wrote:

Ta, I owe you half a ton of wheat Wink
HuwB

Danny Brown very impressive.
Valverde must have a new dog.
The only Spanish climber not killing this TT is Basque. Embarassed
smarauder68

Kessiakoff beats Contador by 15 seconds on the descent...crazy!
kathy

Froome loses 22s to Berto
smarauder68

New GC:

1)Contador
2)Froome @15
3)Purito...???????
Bartali

Good bike skills Purito!!  Smile

Two years ago I'd have been scratching my head, now I think maroni and make the final leap Smile Going back 3 years, if Contador has got his 2009 time trial form back, the others need to be very afraid.
cyclingtv

sm.. wrong
HuwB

Berto and Purito in a GC tie.
