Amateur Cycling TeamsI am curious as to how many of you have been part of a proper team for racing?
I've always raced unattached (independently) and had a fairly good results in the events I contend....criteriums in cat 3 and track racing in cat 1 & 2.
During road races though, I can see a tremendous advantage in being part of a team.
Now for those of you who have raced as part of a team - what kind of things do you think are important to look for in a potential team? Have the teams had dedicated roles for certain riders (leader, support, sprinter, climber, etc) or was it more free form with each rider being able to challenge?

On a general note -
The comparable of your Cat.1 & 2 in the UK (Elite & Cat. 1, I except) then yes, there probably would be team orders and 'protected riders'.
Below that, then no. At category 2 - and the fag end of Cat. 1, probably - the riders may have a natter beforehand to decide a strategy, especially if a teammate requires points to maintain or advance their license, but it's on an ad hoc basis.
Below that, Cat. 3 and 4, anything goes.
Saying that, it always depends. After all, competitive spirit doesn't always correlate to ability!

Guess it depends on what you're looking for and what races you want to race, and at what level. For me I'm just a lowly Cat 4, so I'm looking for camraderie, and the occasional race where there is a pre-planned breakaway and supported rider. In Cat 4 there is rarely any planning.

i wa spaid from 1985.1986...from local bike outfit to ride ice cream classic..@niagara falls, ont...
rode shit, got dropped on climb..and in the tt rode 55.23 40 km.. placed 19 ... rode shit....
