bbnaz

nice HW. now where is the photo of you in it with your trusty steed?
headwind

just came in the mail today!
headwind

KRE...no coincidence...not that Im Mr PR...but he's one of my all time faves and April is BY FAR the best month on the calendar! And that Gios bike of his also a major piece of bike porn.

kellyrocheearly

he's a rider who doesnt get the credit he deserves especially as he had to compete with Merckx, Maertaens, Moser, Raas etc
Gios do make beautiful bikes
Jackov

It's the badge on the front that does it for me.
Bartali

Just got my hands on some cool Lampre black 'Simoni' kit ... nice!!!  Very Happy

headwind

Id say that fits Parlee #2 quite nicely...and stealthily!

Super!! Thanks Guiness.  I'm sure ASO's email said the 11th but that would be silly.  9th makes more sense.

thanks Gents. Im looking forward to seeing ASO sign up page to see if they are limiting registrants.

Its gonna be carnage and a suicide mission!  Imagine a pack of 50 people with varied skills hitting Arenberg or (much worse IMO) Carrefour...the carnage will be epic!

You guys thinking of entering?!
headwind

not in a million years. the flanders course is bad enough with well heeled cobbles!
Bartali

No way ...it would kill my bike!!!
headwind

youd be surprised mate. perhaps something in steel?

Ive done them twice now, both with carbon frames. once you force it from your mind (or have it jarred out in a hurry), its no big deal and the carbon is nice.

A friend of mine did the course from secteur 20 to the drome on his NeoPrimato...and loved the velvety smoothness of sweet sweet steel.

Don't worry, I did it this year with my bike, and everything was fine, just need 24 spoke wheels, alluminium if possible, and 25" (or more) section tyres. I didn't even have a puncture.

As soon as I finished it I swear that I wasn't going to do it again, but I will be there next year!!!! I nearly cry when I rode into the velodrome...

After doing it Ii don't understand why people get so concerned about the bike, the body suffers a lot more, I had pain in my fingers for over 2 weeks!!!!

Now, De Ronde, that is another story, to it is very different than P-R, especially if it rains, a pain to go up those hills!!!!!

BTW, I couldn't finish Flandres, it was my first cyclo since 2008 (way to start) I put my foot down with only 30kms to the finish; If next year I am still in the north I will finish it, no doubt about it

That is me crossing Aremberg! oh, and it rained too...

Some nice pics in there Berg
Bartali

Way to go Berg!!

I think I'll stick to my mountains rather than the cobbles!  Think I have a 'head to head' with Slowrower - Marmotte 2011.  Care to join us Berg, HW, Cape, Red .... anyone else???

Great photos .... especially like the one of 'Merckx'

Well done Berg. It was a pisser day for Flanders sportif thats for sure. I ran 24 spoke front 28 spoke rear, 700x25 conti 4-season tires on both courses (and the G-W course). No flats. Not a single mechanical.

I remember getting to the to the Roubaix velodrome (we rode the course friday), and felt about the same...but the gate was closed. I finally got in and did my lap. It was very emotional. My issue was more prolonged saddle pain.

The Marmotte is in my calendar, so as De Ronde and Roubaix, also I want to do one of the Ardennes, Liege maybe, and depends where I am, something in Pyrenees.

Do know if you know, since Fev.2009 I've been living in the north of France, in Lille, only a few Kms away from Roubaix.

As you, I love the mountains, but here, well, they are "extincted" Smile you can only find walls, I guess is better than nothing, but once you try the cobbles, they get you for ever!!! (well, at least on my case)
Beasley

you've caught 'pave fever', Berg!

When it's going well on the stone, there's nothing quite liike it. Doesn't go well too often, mind.
Bartali

'Pave fever' .... is there some sort of innoculation you can get?

Berg - see you in the Alps in July - it will be my fifth marmotte!

Yes a good saddle!!!

well, you will be the wheel to follow!!!
Bartali

We need to start a Marmotte 2011 thread.  Slowrower will be on the starting line as well!
Juggernaut

I could be tempted - I need some excuse to crank up the VR trainer and spend the winter grinding up pretend mountains...

edit : ok, so now you've got me thinking about, what date is the Marmotte in 2011?
Bartali

Sounds like we have a team Juggernaut!

Its pretty much always the first Saturday in July - think that's the 2nd in 2011.
Guiness

Lisa will be doing La Marmotte or L'Etape next year. I ain't been tempted to do either! Not as fit in my 40s as I was in my 30s... Might be supporting from the sidelines instead. "Just Cycling" team mascot.

Yeah, started on Sat 3rd July this year - real bad planning in my book! Although, not all cyclists are particularily interested in the professional sports side of it. hard to imagine, but it's true!

Yeah, I was just coming back to edit my post. As usual I learn something on here every day Very Happy I would maintain it's bad planning too, but it's their race. . .
Bartali

If you are quick enough, you get back to the hotel i plenty of time to see the important bit of the prologue ... !!!  I've never been quick enough though ;(
MAILLOT JAUNE

Isn't that incentive enough to make sure you get back early to watch end of Prologue, Bart?????  Wink
bergaretxebe

I'd rather ride any cyclosportive than watch the pros, once in a while is not about them, but us!!!

Bring it on...!

Although in all seriousness, I'll be a happy man if I get back to Alpe D'Huez under my own steam before it's dark and it will still class as a good result if I get back without being overtaken by a ski transfer coach. Smile
