I couldn't agree more TT. Reminds me of JP Marat.......
'Don't be decieved when they tell you things are better now.
Even if there's no poverty to be seen because the poverty's
been hidden. Even if you ever got more wages and could
afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which
industries foist on you and even if it seems to you that you
never had so much, that is only the slogan of those who
still have much more than you. Don't be taken in when
they pat you paternally on the shoulder and say that there's
no inequality worth speaking of and no more reason to
fight, because if you believe them they will be completely
in charge in their marble homes and granite banks from
which they rob the people of the world under the pretence
of bringing them culture. Watch out, for as soon as it
pleases them they'll send you out to protect their gold in
wars whose weapons, rapidly developed by servile scientists,
will become more and more deadly until they can with a
flick of the finger tear a million of you to pieces.'
Jean Paul Marat, died 1793.

Hehe - If I ever decide I'm going to pay £8k for a bicycle, I'd hope to be sectioned as a vulnerable adult.

Surely the value of money and the goods you can buy with it depends on how much of it you have? £8000 to some is like £800 to others and if one already has a perfectly good car, then surely the Wilier is the better buy?
Another way of looking at it is 2 pints of beer a day (London prices) for three years and you could buy the bike. After three years the beer has long since been 'pissed' away; but the bike will provide enjoyment for years to come.
I think I've talked myself into staying sober and buying the bike.

I dunno, are you saying three years of being pissed every day doesn't count as "years of enjoyment"?
I think I've drawn the opposite conclusion

Lol - good try Bart, you mad gear junkie you! If you already have a car, then you could buy a cheaper bike if you wanted one. You could buy a bike that was worth the money being charged for instance.
Of course, we all spend our money on whatever the hell we want and if it makes us feel good then whatever. All I'm saying is that bike isn't worth £8k. Someone may want to spend £8k on a bike to make them feel better than the mugs who spent £4k on a bike, but they are not getting value-for-money, either in terms of performance or in terms of enjoyment. It's the old sports car principle...... no matter how much you spend on one, sooner or later you will be sat at the lights next to someone who spent more than you and your house of cards is blown down.

If you can afford it, and thats your justification for buying then go for it. Its your choice!!!
Supply and demand and clever marketing guff have alot to do with it. TT loves his steel frame. Steel frames should be cheap as chips but they are not......marketing, popularity..... supply and demand. That house of cards will be blown down by a new fashion season. Ride it enjoy it, thats about it.
