* new WorldTour race for 2017

Be interesting how it plays out with the upgraded  races and how many invites are still available for local teams at the WT events (the new races do not need to invite all the World Tour Teams).

Surprised that Turkey made the cut given the politics and instability in the region.

San sebastian, ridelondon and Start of pologne over the 1 weekend?

They seem to have gone crazy like me in a bookshop picking books, then get home and wonder why you added them

Wasn't their talk about reducing the world tour calendar with the reforms?

Also bad for continental teams who saw some of the races as good opportunities for TV coverage in their coumtries like California, dwars, het nieuwsblad
Boogerd_Fan

altho with Omloop, Dwaars and SB.. i'm happy these races are added..

there's a bad smell in the air from adding Turkey, Qatar and UAE  - following the money basically.

California i can kind of understand..

...Cadel Evans race?????????

They've also neglected to solve the clash of P-N and T-A... or is that expected in 2 years time?

I always thought that was a deliberate clash.
Depending on how many hills you wanted to climb and what you like for breakfast.

I'm sure your right as I can't remember it any other way.

So what is it :- TOC upgraded.
Next is the Giro being slotted even earlier, in say the exact former Vuelta dates, so that the TOC can have it's own important dates.

What no De Panne 3 day. ??

Nice looking jersey though ....

on the subject, innrring has this http://inrng.com/2016/08/lampre-china-italy/

i do like the comment about

Quote:
Rather presumptuously the photo includes the UCI World Tour logo but like all teams it will have to be vetted for 2017 by the UCI’s Licence Commission to make sure it’s got the budget, contracts and a strong enough roster to merit a place.

Cyclingnews likes referring to the bahrain project as being a worldtour team for example http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/c...to-worldtour-with-bahrain-merida/

------

anyway, i saw this to do with a race at the other end (the rás)

Quote:
They are looking for B&Bs throughout the region business or people who may be willing to share their homes with riders & their team members overnight to get in touch.
with 25 km of a possible stage finish town

Though I guess this is standard thing for a lot of smaller races
bianchigirl

Having had the opportunity to see the Tour of Turkey at first hand, I was super impressed with the organisation etc and it is a truly beautiful race that in many ways deserves to have WT status - mind you, Matt Rendell was in charge then Wink

First time I've ever been around cyclists letting their hair down, will never forget travelling back to hotel at 3am for flight at 5am with the Etixx team...

All that aside, Cookson has done his usual inadequate job on this - instead of streamlining we have the same old bloat. He  has been immeasurably worse for cycling than McQuaid

Seems unlikely if your regular assessments of McQuaid through the Armstrong comeback era were accurate.

Thanks Huw, forgot about that.  Good to see some racing, although I always enjoy the break.  I am afraid I await the real season in two months.  However I have heard that the TV channel of l'Equipe has moved up a level this year and bought up the rights to, for example, the Giro.  So I get to see it, finally, in HD.  they are doing a few other Italian races the French have neglected for years as well.  Should make a big improvement for those of us in France.

February 12, 2017, Laigueglia, Liguria, Road - 1.HC
Well this season opener has lost it's grand position because the big Pro names no longer take part.
Dam the UCI for clashing the Oman money fest with this event.

This week the result was.
1 Fabio Felline (Ita) Italy 4:54:01
2 Romain Hardy (Fra) Fortuneo - Vital Concept 0:00:25
3 Mauro Finetto (Ita) Delko Marseille Provence KTM
4 Matteo Trentin (Ita) Italy
5 Cyril Gautier (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale

Next week they do it again with Oman and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Oman is already underway, Mr S.
I think you mean the Abu Dhabi Tour.

calendar clashes as dwars and de panne clash this season and may go to court over it

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/d...vlaanderen-clash-over-2018-dates/

tour of turkey postponed, what with cancellation of qatar, this raises eyebrows to the uci project of promoting these races

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/a...y-postponed-will-seek-later-date/

like last year, turkey had maybe 2 world tour teams in lotto and lampre and pro continental team in the dominant caja rural

but the big thing is the route of the rás revealed
http://www.stickybottle.com/lates...e-unveiled-climbs-shorter-stages/

the climb on the last day to bellewstown, i know that very well. i remember struggling up that many's a time, tough hill and a heartbreaker with dread on whether there'd be any power left even at the half way point, whether help would be needed

ah, that fiat 127 of my fathers. that car had its struggles on that hill and most hills.

The expansion of the WT calendar is proving to be very costly.
A calendar clash with Dwars could kill De Panne altogether.

Hate that, Ventoux!  If it is any consolation it will likely be wet and windy but you knew that already.  I have a buddy in Raphoe so I might make it my business to visit him that week...

Made up for it today, i'm surprised that they didnt cancel the stage. I've raced on moto circuits, off the regular racing line they are like an ice rink when wet.

Brief shout out for Bauke too.. great work yesterday for securing 4th.

Until this season, Laurent Pichon had never won a race above 2.2 in his eight year career.
Today, he notched up his third win in under two weeks, by taking the Route Adélie de Vitré.

UCI statement on Andrey Grivko

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that its Disciplinary Commission has decided to suspend Mr Andrey Grivko for a period of 45 days from 1st May to 14th June 2017, following an incident which occurred at the Dubai Tour on 2nd February 2017.

The decision is based on article 12.1.005 of the UCI Regulations.

Bahhhhh knew someone would say that..  Very Happy  Very Happy I'll stick with the chased Landa down, Mikel has been fairly well shafted by Sky through July!

Superb riding by sky to get the win in San Sebastian. Chapeau to kwiatkowski, lands, moscon et all for how they rode.

Didn't know Poland started today, thought it would be tomorrow.

Oh, well.

I suspect if Landa has a problem with anyone it's not with Kwiatkowski!
mazda

I enjoyed that, some of the little nuances like Gallopin forcing Landa to ride on the descent once Landa had glued himself to the back of the trio.

At no point did Landa have a winning position - maybe if he'd got away solo or with Mollema.

I can't quite decide what was going on with 1km to go after Landa + TD had another gap.
If he was just setting things up for K, then did he slow down a little, and why didn't Dumoulin counter ?

I watched it on the Polish Sport channel.
It has 3 hours per day and both the final, mountain stages live from the start.

Eurosport must have some sort of cheap deal.
Only half an hour of stage 1, shown today and the last hour or so live, during the week.
Next Saturday, looks like no coverage. Confused

Edit: Bugos is live on the Bike Channel from Tuesday afternoon. Wink

I thought that Dumoulin did try to counter, as soon as he caught Landa.
The Sky man immediately jumped on his wheel.
Looked to me that Dumoulin had a hard job to close in the first place, which suggests he didn't have the legs.
