The weather for the next few days is pretty cold with snow possible even in the lowlands. Might have an impact on some of the mountain stages. Last week was bad here as well. 90% of the grape flowers were estimated to be lost!

Given this is the second Giro warm up race to be impacted by snow (well maybe depending on what happens this week), might we see the same in the Giro?

Look at the state of the vines behind Felline. Must be a horrible feeling to watch a year's income disappear overnight. Cherry trees are the big fruit where we live. All black as well Sad

It's going to be another few miserable days - tomorrow very wet. Sleety on Thursday and Friday. Might make the race more interesting or might make for tactical withdrawals if rider's are worried about getting sick before the Giro?

Today's finish not effected, but tomorrow's start may be moved to the bottom of the hill.
Fortunately, the weather forecast looks a bit better for Saturday's queen stage, which goes to higher altitude, if not over harder climbs.
Not much in the way of gradient in this edition.
The GC big wigs will struggle to gain significant time, so it's going to come down to the final ITT for the top 10 shuffle.

It's Switzerland: it's a supposedly mountain finish: it's Albasini.
Meh, meh and thrice meh.
Awful stage design.

I know I'm way, way too late but I am happy to throw some stupid points in to the pot with Porte and let someone else get the benefit

Was surprised to see sunshine on yesterday's stage when I caught the highlights late last night. We had snow and rain all morning where I work. Today is lovely everywhere. I know all the climbs with the exception of the last one up to Leysin, but it's on my list of ones to try - we stay in the valley between the Jaun and Saanenmöser when we go to the mountains.

Sky have seemed to accept that Moscon is guilty of racial abuse by stating that they will punish him after the race http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/m...-abuses-reza-at-tour-de-romandie/ but are okay to have him race today.  Shocking standards applied to disgusting behaviour by a team with an African leader

Yes. They should have pulled him straight away.

Not sure if folks remember, but it's not the first time Reza has been the target for well documented racial abuse:-

http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news...-kevin-reza-tour-de-france-130875

What you read there was the sum total of Albasini's "penalty".

Given the current spotlight upon the BC management and Portal's comments after, Sky will have to take a much tougher stance.

All things considered, not a bad stage yesterday.
Porte and Yates made the effort to attack early, livened things up and got their reward.

The UCI have announced they've opened an investigation into Moscon's alleged racist abuse.

A case of who dares wins.
Porte by far the fastest going up, Roglic by far the fastest coming down.
The ex-skier even managed a bit of a slaloming.

However, after watching Yorkshire doing it's impression of the TDF, it all felt more than a bit underwhelming.
So, if I may.........

Chapeau to porte and Yates for going for it. Other than that, the profile proved misleading and saw big groups. Actually surprised with tters doing well, jungles only came 8th. Is he losing weight to be better in the high mountains and becoming a stronger GT rider than being a tter that is good in the mountains?

Those were tremendous crowds in Yorkshire and the racing wasn't bad. One thing I was wondering was how long fdj had a women's team?

Moscon gets a "Grivko" and has to go on an "awareness" course.

https://www.teamsky.com/article/gianni-moscon

Sufficient, or no?

When was he next due to race?

He has came off a big block of racing sine strada bianchi doing tirreno-addriatico, romandy and all the spring classics but for Amstel gold so he was probably due a bit of a break anyway

Hard to know when what he actually did is unclear. Or as Nolte points out - what was in his program anyway. Would probably lean towards him getting off lightly.

On the subject, was watching a bit of "It Was Alright In The 80s" on More 4 just now - we've come a long way whether or not 6 weeks is too light.

He wasn't due to race is what I am reading elsewhere, but that's not a guarantee he wouldn't be needed.
If folks are using PCS to make that call, it's very hit n' miss.
After all, he did ride Cali, last year.
Be interesting to see if they take a full team to Cali or not.
