Some long stages in the first few days, but unless the wind blows up, probably crashes and mechanicals are the only thing that will concern the GC riders. Notwithstanding the few seconds to be grabbed at the Stage 2 finish.

Stage 1 – Saturday 2nd July

Stage 2 – Sunday 3rd July

Stage 3 – Monday 4th July

Stage 4 – Tuesday 5th July

all the money cofidis has spent on bouhanni and a tailor made sprint train for him and that's two tours that he has been absent/injured due to the nationals. it's a pity but that is the risk of investment Sad

maybe they should take the lead of what teams do with their irish riders and not allow bouhanni to ride the nationals

He could get into a fight anywhere though, not just on the road.

I'm adding the maps here, as if the weather is poor, we could get early fireworks.....

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

Stage 4

Maps are a bit large.
Weather warning for wind on Sunday in the Cherbourg area. Rain and a strong cross tailwind. Gusts of 55kph.
No rain and 40kph on Saturday.

Tasty.

It's difficult to look beyond the Froome-Quintana showdown that the media expect.  Of course, Contador should be feared but its amazing to think he hasn't even had a legitimate podium in the last 6 TDFs.  I wonder how both BMC will fare out with the two leaders approach, TBH it's hard to think either of them have too much of a chance.  It's also difficult to work out who will give the most support to the nominated leader out of Valverde and Nibali Wink although I do think there is more likelihood of Nibs playing a strong support to Aru than Aru giving Nibs a hand if he ends up in stronger position.

Given the final week, might we have a GC contender in the maillot pois rather than the now usual breakaway contenders?  I also wonder if Kittel or Greipel can offer any serious competition to Sagan for the points, although I think that one is headed in only one direction.

The white jersey competition has the look of a bit of a scrap about it though - Barguil, Yates, Menthes, Kelderman and Alaphillipe all have a good shot at it.

I fear that we will lose a few in the first few days though, in the usual first week carnage - especially if the weather is poor.  They are going to have to work something out, or at least accept that it isn't possible for every single team to ride up the front at the same time...

But actually quite nice to have a closer look at where it goes. I am reminded of my visit to the "Landis Tour" when it went through Normandy / Brittany and France being in the World Cup final that same weekend.

Anyway. I added in some smaller laptop friendly versions that are pretty similar. If you are happy with the swap then I will make the change permanent?

His versatility is one of the reasons that Cofidis hired him Wink

With illness in June meaning Cavendish only did a stage in Slovenia and the nationals and the work on the track for the omnimum, will that lead to another fruitless July for Cavendish?

When it came to cobblestones selection, I pined over cav or coquard, originally having coquard in the team but changing today to cav.

For Bennett and bora, Bennett needs to be kept in position. It is the difficulty for smaller teams to keep their sprinters in position (I also think martin during his time in cannondale weakness was positioning

For the greens, as the fps show, hard to look beyond sagan. Though the thing is it is the tour and for other sprinters to keep scoring because illness, crashes could happen Sagan though not much consolation for other sprinters, is it?

Leigh Howard, Jan Barta and Paul Voss immediately form the race's first breakaway.
Only a further 2 riders trying to bridge.

Kind of fun spending a few extra minutes, before my nap, looking at the TV and getting slowly into the rhythm of the next three weeks.  Nice seaside though.  And looking forward to when the hilly action starts.  Not that I don't like sprints, just that they don't have quite so much racing in some ways.  These days I guess almost all the racing tends to be at the end of the stage.  Until the end, one can just enjoy the atmosphere.  Back to the box.

20km or so to the points sprint

Bora with 2, 1 was expected but 2 indicates not thinking about Sam Bennett for the sprint

Contador looking like he has nasty road raeh

Pace seems to have subsided a little, remaining at 35 seconds for break to peloton

Edit - seen crash and that looked nasty into a traffic island.

Thomas needed wheel change at same time but puncture
