I am going to tidy up the library links, into one post and some sort of order.
Either PM me with new links, or stick them in the old thread and we should have a usuable sticky. Wink

Great job, Huwb.....but given the multi-national nature of the member list, what constitutes 'Foreign' and 'Local'? Laughing

Is is possbile to have a category for links to the sites offering live streaming? I know I can probably trawl through the 'Cycling on TV and the Internet' sticky, but it would be useful to have all the links in one place rather than spread over over 43 pages.

They tend to vary, but those that don't will be put in the media section.
Other than that, we have cyclingfans, steephill and one or two others yet to be added, that provide links to most available links.
The obscure net feeds will still by in found in the other thread, come race days.....

Perhaps 'English' and 'Other languages' would be a better idea.  I and others here read and post from threads in French, Spanish and Italian, whereas others post stuff in Dutch and German.  And I'm sure MJM and Pantanifan read stuff in Romanian and Hungarian!

So that's where you have been with your "Nicknames" hunting. !

I would like to ask a pertinent question here.

I am collating my personal records and have been searching around for Archives of Vuelta Espana in an attempt to locate the mountains and altitudes used in the past 20 years. ??

Be Lucky.

So can I actually - my Mum was from Oldham.  She used to say something like 'Go and play on your own middin!'  No idea how to spell it!

Yup, I've been there.
Another one that is good for Race Results.

My Browsing has revealed to me that I must avoid these USA sites and cyclingnews also as they only go back a short time in their so called archives.

I think they got introduced to cycle sport when the internet started up and some guy started a 7 year winning streak of some race or other. (well just the one race really)

Be Lucky...I've just caught a view of Rominger & Cipollini doing a two man break in a 1990's Giro with german commentary on DSF. (ah they were the days) before digital.

Mr S, the internet started long before someone 'won' seven Tours.  I was using Prestel on a BBC computer many moons ago - can't remember when exactly.  We used it to book hotels and ferries and things, and joined forums even in those days. Laughing

Prestel is/was not the Internet. Way different types of methods to do somewhat similar things. The Internet started in the 60's and started getting refined in the 70's and 80's. The World Wide Web (which most people confuse with the Internet) got started in the early 90's

I think you're splitting hairs a bit there, Berck.  As a means of world wide communication, Prestel achieved exactly the same as what we call the Internet does now.  Of course, only a small fraction of people used it in those days.  And the 'Internet' itself was widely available long before TUE won his Tours.

Again, you are confusing 'The Web' and the Internet. But, I do agree that they both started before Armstrong even won one TdF.

I see Prestel very much like the Bulletin Board Systems we had here in the States. You dial into those systems and you're on those systems. You're also confined to what those systems provide for you. These systems were centralized, and both were precursors to 'The Web'.

When you hook into the Internet, you can do anything that the is provided on the internet from all kinds of different sources, for Email, surfing the Web, transfering files. The Internet is a distributed system. 'The Web' is nothing more than a protocol or service that runs over the internet.
