Like the look of this:

'Ascent' The Mountains of the TdF - and free delivery in the UK, too!

http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ID=1542

Also worth a look are Matt Rendell's 'Real Peloton' DVDs

http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ID=1514

As for all their gorgeous giro t-shirts - mmmmmmmmm

yes ascent looks god - someone bought it me for xmas but haven't had chance to read it yet as baby arrived 5 days later. there is a similar French title 'cols mythiques du TdF' published by Equipe a couple of years ago which has absolutely gorgeous old photos from the equipe archives - a must for any mountain junkies like me.

i think Ascent will be a must buy for me too. Nothing like reading about the giants of the road to motivate you to get off your arse and out on your bike!!

Just got "Cycling's Golden Age: The Brett Horton Collection" signed by Gimondi and Merckx! It's excellent if you like all the stories about Coppi, Magni, Bobet (and me - ha ha). Fantastic photographs!

Bit expensive for a signed copy (Velopress in the US), but good value unsigned from amazon.

Lucky you, Bartali. Very Happy
I was so tempted to buy the signed copy when I saw it on the velogear website, but just couldn't justify the cost!

Bartali,

You should have come to Interbike last September. Not only could you have spent time in Lost Wages but you could have purchased the book for US$50 and had Eddy and Felice sign them personally to you.

but well done finding a signed one anyway. Just how much did it cost if I may be nosy?

Cool photo's BB. It cost $99.95 from Velogear http://www.velogear.com/products.asp?dept=22

Thats $50.00 more than unsigned - $25 per autograph. Felice was my hero way back when I was eight!

Cape,

Let's just say that Mario hadn't signed my shirt yet in the Eddy photo.

Something about him signing my chest took the curls right out..............

Plan is, although it is yet to be confirmed, that I will be interviewing Jens on Saturday.

Anyone recommend any rider autobiographies in the vein of Paul Kimmage's Rough Ride?

I'm not just talking about dope here though, I'm mainly interested in the rider telling it as it was or is. Must be in English too.

Not a bio but William Fotheringham's 'Put Me Back On My Bike' is an excellent book on Tom Simpson.

I also really like 'Inside the Tour de France' which consists of a number of interviews where various pros (Indurain and Armstrong among them) give their view of riding the TdF - the fact that it's by Armstrong's nemesis David Walsh makes the section 'The Neeophyte's Tale' (a flattering portrait of the American at his first Tour) all the more interesting.
