From elsewhere
| Quote: | http://www.wielerupdate.nl/nieuws...rong-zonder-nieuwe-sponsor_11358/
It's in dutch, but apparently originally reported by RAI.
LA won't go to the TdF if they don't find a new sponsor. Even if they find a new sponsor, it is rumoured that Contador leaves the team anyhow. According to Spanish media, Caisse d'epargne wants to contract him.
UCI is contemplating about pulling the plug June 1st, by revoking the UCI license. Obviously this has to do with the lag in rider's salary. |
Sounds like they've been smitten with a heavy dose of reality.
Forum pundits may often be cynical, but they are often correct.
No sponsors queing up to support the "ego" and he's not going to finance his "cancer awareness" return.
In accommodating a guy who is used to calling all the shots, there was always going to be rifts.
They have taken on the Kazakh fed in the media and look to have lost.
Contador leaving will not be purely down to money, but the same battle for supremacy.
If the team folds, who will shoulder the majority of the blame and was the comeback worth the cost?

The jig was up when there was that announcement that had Harmon and the fanboys salivating about the identity of the new sponsors and turned out to be - a sweepstake to win a trip to see Armstrong at the Tour. It just happened to coincide with the news that the Kazakh Fed would be paying the back wages.
Factor in the news from the team at Catlonia and Horner's interview where he said he'd always been paid and that if Contador hadn't been he was sure he'd have found a new team and we're left with one conclusion - that Bruyneel has been lying and trying to leverage the PT license fraudulently. _________________ I'm just looking for one divine hammer |

My Dutch is quite rusty, but does it actually say anything new? The stuff about Contador is still in the rumor phase. The missing payments from the Kazakhs is old stuff, also the threat that the UCI might take away the license. The article doesn't mention the confusion over which Astana riders have been paid so far and which haven't.
Anyway, Astana seems to hit rock bottom. Besides lack of payments, they have nothing to show in the Giro, TdF participation in question and their best GC hope likely leaving the outfit. Sounds like it's folding any time now. |

I think a good pointer of the current economic climate for sponsors is the fact that the Brawn F1 team having won 5 of the 6 opening races to the season still have a predominantly white car having failed to lure a title sponsor into the fold.
BG, I think people might have indulged your personal opinions on Menchov a little bit more, were you not so prone to telling us what was the only conclusion we were allowed to draw about your hated ones. |

I've just seen that she edited her post after I quoted it, but somehow it's my fault and I'm a dickhead? Maybe you could look at the timestamps before making your usual assumptions about me.
Since I'm here, BG repeatedly posts very strong opinions (and that's all they are) on a discussion board, yet hides behind claims of being patronised and having spite directed at her when they're discussed. What made me laugh the most was her complaints about posters jumping on their usual hobby horses.
From my perspective I'm not going to take it seriously when this afternoon the debate was as enjoyable as ever and 4 hours later she's leaving the forum cos she can't stand anymore patronising bullshit when all I did was make a lighthearted comment.
If BG wants me to remove the quote I'll do so. |

McQuaid is quoted as saying that the 6/1 dedline has been extended, and that things are much better than they were a few weeks ago. Although, he did say that could come back later in June and pull the license.

Where did my thread go?
Amica Chips have had their licence withdrawn, by the UCI, due to lack of funds.
Classic piece of McQuaid double-talk, I thought:
"To the best of my knowledge, the bank guarantee has been repaid," he said. "As far as I am aware, everything is up to date with them. But having said that, it is still not completely clear."
So, who paid Chris Horner, I wonder and how come he was forced to wear the protest jersey?
A takeover gambit gone wrong? |

Here is a story from a Kazakh news service interviewing Kazakh Federation VP Proskurin.
http://translate.google.com/trans...&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
It's a Google translation so a little fuzzy but it does not seem to be very optimistic. They have until June 5th to meet obligations. The state of the license will be decided June 11th. |

huwb - I had a diva strop and was going to flounce off in a flurry of sequins - thought better of it as who else will voice 'very strong opinions' around here?
Mysterion, thanks for that - seems as if the KF are ready top concede, or know that McQuaid is just itching to give the license to Bruyneel/Armstrong (what is it this time Pat? a 9 hole golf course?). _________________ I'm just looking for one divine hammer |

Don't you dare! More ammo for the fair weather lurkers.
Yes, I get the impression that McQuaid is feeding a one sided story, which can only mean the brown envelopes are passing around.
Could probably run the team for a couple of months, if they didn't pay the protection racket. |

So McQuaid yet again is involved in duplicity - he can pull the rug out from under a struggling little team like Amica Chips, but when there's a threat to his bank balance, it's a different story. I wonder if JB has threatened to reveal the extent of the bribes if Pat doesn't play ball. _________________ "You can't win races with passion alone."

| What is perhaps most worrying is McQuaid's attacks on Kohl's personality because he is blowing the whistle. It seems that McQuaid is becoming a staunch defender of Omerta. |

Limerickman at Cycling Forums knows McQuaid and he provided some unsurprising insight.

I'm gonna sound like the most paranoid troll around by saying this, but here goes : el commandate is the most expedient bollocks I have ever met.
What he says in private about doping, is 360 degrees away from his public statements.
Privately he will tell you that he's anti-doping, very much in favour of WADA and wanting more extreme protocols and life bans etc etc.
Publicly he makes defensive comments about WADA, protecting rider rights etc.
Publicly he makes those statements because he's an expedient wanker.
If the wind changed direction, he would reverse every public statement he has made.
But that's him. He sits there and sees who has the upper ahnd and will make statements to support the powerbase with the upper hand.
If and when there is a powershift, you can be sure that he will change his public stance to support that new power base.
I fully expect to see him saying Mass some day. |

I have been informed by a colleague who works with some of the F1 teams during the year that this is resolved but they are waiting until Silverstone to make the big news public. A major British company are involved and not just tricky dicky branson......
